Should have shopped for a GMC Motorhome 1973 to 1978. Our 1975 had 73,000 on it when we got it many years ago. We installed headers with a 3" exhaust and recurved the dist to get 13 mpg out of the 455 Olds. The poorest MPG was climbing interstate 70 from interstate 15 in Utah to the summit at Loveland Pass where we got a big 8.5 mpg. Overall that trip we ended up at 12.5 mpg. It now has 107,000 miles on it.

I considered one, but doing research I found they are not very good for towing much of anything.

1. The towing can be a problem if you want more then 400 lb tonque weight, unless you do a dolly or a towing setup like one of the Smokee and the Bandit rig they use on that elephant.

2. The Transmission is a really beef up version of the Turbo 425 that was in the Cadillac Eldorado and the Oldsmobile Toronado. This transmission has alot in common with the Turbo 400 but turn in opposite direction so the gear cut is backward, along with other inprovements.

3. They do ride like a dream and after driving 800 miles I was rested and ready to go. If you are pass by a big rig, you don't get that effect of the big rig cushion that want to push you out and then suck you back in.

4. I like having a MH that is only 8 1/2' tall and you don't need a step to get into. Side benefit is that it will smoke the tires across the intersection :rotf:, fully loaded when there were 5 of us it weigh 11,000 lb with 50 gallon of gas, 30 gallons of water and a full propane tank.

Between GF and dobrick we should be just fine.

Of course UR50Slo has some work to do to buick first while I take care of dennis's jalopy.

I wouldn't count on either of them. dobreak is planning on autocrossing his little red truck and your baby momma is going to get wise to you someday and send you packing.:rotf:

less than 7k, I was laughing this morning that I have more in my ty trans than I do in this.

My list of wants was a chevy chassis/engine (i know there is better but I know how to fix a chevy). 90's vintage, no loan, sleep 6. This one is 27ft, a lot of 30-33's out there. Went shorter as I plan to use it half the time towing the car trailer.

My thought is if it doesn't work out as planned, I can sell in a year/two and lose maybe 2k. Buy one new/with a load and would lose that the first week.

I grew up with a motorhome and enjoye still those memories I have with my family, my daughter is now 8, and loves road trips. She is as excited as I am which is good.

Be a lot easier if kiddo's, or other half want to go to the track also. They will have a place to be comfortable and I won't be stressed/worried about getting done as quick as possible.

If they still complain they will have to stay home.

Nice ride brother!!!! Damn......under 7k for that seems like a steal! I'll have to keep my eyes open for a deal like that here in colorado...wow.:tup:

Going down won't matter on the route, but coming back I would go through nashville/chattanooga and stay away from the smoky mountains. Hills in a motorhome towing a car would suck donkey balls.

And I was calculating how long it would take to drive one car 1 mile, run back get the other drive 2 miles, run back get the other, drive 2 miles run back get the other, drive 2 miles, run back get the other,,

:lol: I've sadly had to do this twice (yes twice) as I've ran two of my trucks out of gas near my home! It sucked, but it worked! no one to call/help at 3am.

If thats the case it will make it back to Indiana. Be deassembled and out of commission for 5+ years.:tdown:

Yea, I'll actually be driving my own truck to Sy/Ty nats this year. Probably stay parked at the hotel most of the weekend though.

In more Jeff related information, I dropped off his GPS receiver a few minutes ago, and helped him jump start his Tahoe. They are leaving this evening to head south. Hope his luck gets better!!

For the record I'd run north out of Jax and avoid the smokeys as well.

We drove from Cape Canaveral to Jax then to St Louis in one shot a few years back and everyone we asked recommended that path.

Talked to them at 6:45 this morning. They made it to J-ville from Louisville in 11 hrs. HARDman drove the whole way while Jeff slept.!
