I just got done changing out our distributor in our 2001 GMC Safari van, because it was making alot of racket like a bearing was going bad. The sound wave was being carried to the area of the Alt or just behind it. Anyway I found out that the upper bushing in these distributors don't have a way to get lube from the engine, but when you change out the rotor, there is a small indent where the shaft goes though and it is here that you can lube the upper bushing by going thru the seal that has 4 indents in it. I found out too late and our distributor upper bushing went out at 175,000 miles. So if anyone is using the later distributor for the cam shaft position ignition / sensor you need to take note of this. Hopefully this will help someone here.
