Newbie. Need help

I just picked up the Sy-clone that was on ebay a few weeks back. I trailered it back and fired her up idle was around 1200. Figured vacuum leak no problem. Found vacum leak, fixed vacum leak. Now for the good stuff. If I'm punch it from a rolling 20mph it pulls hard, very hard, no miss. But if I punch it from a dead stand still it'll pull hard then right before 1 to 2nd shift it'll completely stall and backfire out the throttle body???
I know nothing about this engine, it looks bone stock. Has 118k miles. Stock boost gage only.
Any help/ideas?

How much boost are you running? Any mods? Does the engine light come on? Sounds like a good tune up to me to start. Easy to do and little cost.

How much fuel is in the tank? If I have under 1/4 tank, it can cut out during rapid acceleratrion.

Re: Newbie. Need help

As far as I know the engine is stock. Right under 1/2 tank of gas when this happened. Engine light is not on. Motor idles fine and seems to be really tight. As for boost all I have is the stock gage but is it pegged at +15 when this happened. Also my oil pressure is running real high. 80 psi at idle and at full throttle its straight up (12 0clock position). I didnt think about it before but is is like it is running out of fuel. It launches hard and when its pulling its hardest it just dies Its like you almost hit the brakes. then it'll pick pack up. I think it is a fuel problem. Could I be starving the engine of fuel with almost 1/2 a tank? I do know it has a Walbro 255 lph fuel pump. Also does any one sell a new pipe from turbo to IC? Mine is almost oval and you can see rust spots from the wire inside.
Thanks for the help.

Put more gas in it and see if it happens again.. I'd also hook a fuel pressure gauge up to it and tape it to your windshield while you run it hard to make sure your fuel pressure's raising along with your boost

I would also check to see what chip you have.. because this also sounds like it could be over boosting. If you had the stock chip it would be giving you a check-engine light when this fuel cutout occurs. Also the stock boost gauge is useless and totally off in most cases.

Can't help much with this as I don't even remember what mine ran at idle because it's been so long but it's pretty common for that gauge to start going nuts and evenutallly spin completely around to where the needle's stuck under the peg (like mine has been for a while now) so I would maybe see if you could get a reading of how high the pressure maybe some other way.

Sounds like your pump can't keep up or your over boosting.

You see them on ebay from time to time but here's one http://www.raceprovenmotors.com/cart/product_info.php?cPath=21_132&products_id=81

Re: Newbie. Need help

I'll fill it up today and see what happens. Also it is "susposed" to have a Walbro 255 LPH fuel pump. So far no engine light at all and the bulb is good. I guess I'll start with the simplest and work my way from there.
Thanks for the info

mine did that once when i tried to manually shift 1-2  ill never do it again, saw like 18 degrees of knock retard, do you have a way to read your kr?

Not yet. I guess I'm going to need a datamaster. I just picked up the truck last Saturday. So I'm just now trying to gear up for tuning it.
I did fill the tank and it no longer stalled out, so I guess that was my problem. I also dont think my IC pumps is working to well. The IC is almost the same temp as the intake. Is that normal? I figured it would be a good bit cooler than the intake. Should they be close to the same temp?

if your pump is hotwired(if its not do it) pull the cap off the ic with pump running and check the flow. should be good circulation. i know mines weaker than hell. but need cash 1st. good luck  def get dm or sometin, i just use a old school tech 1(gm stuff) since ive had it for years.

If the IC pump is hotwire and/or has an aftermarket chip that runs it all the time. It will be noticably cooler than the Intake, if the pump is working and circulating properly.

Re: Newbie. Need help

I just check and I have the stock chip. Well atleast it has Delco 4053 on it. So I gather its stock?

I just did a search and it is a stock chip. I'll check my IC pump when I get home this afternoon. How do I "hotwire" the IC pump?
Thanks

Just wondering my upper intake doesnt have the Syclone 4.3 Turbo written on it. It doesnt look like it has been ground or sanded off still has paint that is peeling some. . Where some of the intakes plain?

Re: Newbie. Need help

Just checked the IC flow it is flowing slowly very slowly. I also noticed that the heater hose that runs to the intake under the throttle body isnt connected. Is this good or bad? I'd think it would help cool the intake some? But then if your IC is working well maybe it'll run cooler without radiator water heating it up some?
Also the way the IC hard lines are run from the factory. One runs right on top of the intake around and under the alternator, the other back behind the engine kinda up high but very ugly then down ontop of the inake and valve cover right behind the alternator. Wouldnt it be better to run them away from all the engine heat? Maybe reroute them further away from the block? I have solid motor mounts so if I mounted them up on the firewall and then down around the driver side fender well. Lines would be away from the engine and longer which would give me a little more coolant and away from engine heat. Fabing brackets wouldnt be hard. But if it wouldnt benefit me any, well except look alot better. Am I thinking in the right direction or would it be a waste of time with no benefits?

Re: Newbie. Need help

I have my IC pump hotwired and it moves the water ok but not crazy fast or anything like the engine coolant. Yours might be fine but it's hard to tell. Also, you can re-route the IC lines like you were talking about. It's a pretty common mod and you can do a search in here to see how they route the lines through the fender. I haven't done it yet myself but it looks pretty easy and removes that hardpipe behind the upper intake that makes cap/rotor/wires such a pain in the ass. Plus, it just looks a lot cleaner.

Re: Newbie. Need help

When you "hotwired" your IC pump you mean you just direct wired it right? That is runs all the time. Exactly how did you do rewire it.
