I am in need of a new one. There are different types and brands. I will be running no muffler. Just want a good one if there is a difference. Thanks

Don't have it welded in. Make it so it can be easily removed.
Get it smogged, R&R with test pipe.
Repeat every other year.

I'd rather run a muffler & no cat than a cat & no muffler.
You are already SMOG illegal. Why run a cat?

Re: catalytic converter

The only differenc e between a reg cat and a high flow is the construction. High flow Cats are made better in the sense that the welds are ground down things like that. Ild just get any Cat and make it removable like 4CFED said. Tahts how I have mine set up. Ofcourse they just did away with emissions here in CO so doesnt matter anymore I guess. Ild rather ditch the muffler personally cause if you make the cat removable, and you have to do emissions, then why have a muffler?

I have to make it legal somehow because smog is in april. The problem is if I get pulled over and have no cat its a big fine. No muffler.

Smokey's not gonna get his nice uniform dirty looking under your truck.

If you were worried about that, keep the old cat & punch the catalyst out so it is just a hollow tube. Get it smogged with a real cat then install empty cat shell.

Try milpitas. I had a guy question how many cats my stang was suposed to have. I had hollowed out cats in my stang, but they were there. I am going 3"dp so I need one anyway. I have the Muffler delete from rpm. its about the same size as my cat. Should I use that and swap the cat with it and run a muffler with no cat?? Its atr 3"SS?

Re: catalytic converter

im running JS 3" DP straight dumping and it sounds good to me, my buddy works at a smog shop and gets me the papers for $50, I don't think a cop would look under your truck, it hasn't happened to me with any of my vehicles and they have all been loud, not cat and a muffler sounds nice though thats what I had with my old 93 s-10, just get someone to smog it illegally, I could probably hook you up if you dont know anyone, im actually gonna put a cat on it this week to tone it down a bit, everyone has their own opinion on whether just cat or muffler sounds better to them,

Re: catalytic converter

I want loud but not Rice sounding. I did have a cop look under my cars before. The odds are it wont happen. I did run the car with the cat removed. So it dumped at the DP. That sounded to Ricey to me. I will keep one or the other. Thanks for the info guys. Sunmmit has the magnaflow 21inch for 110$ guessing thats about the size of the stock one?

Re: catalytic converter

right now i'm running the stock DP, into a 2 1/2" to 3" reducer, and into a 3"Flowmaster (no cat). It sounds V8ish, but has a bad tendency to overboost. I'm ripping it out next weekend, and putting in the 3" cat, and a 4' long 3" chamber tube from Summit, maybe it'll sound more 60's musclecar.
