60 mph vibration mystery fix!

Hey all,


I had my Ty upgraded to the ZQ8 box and replaced the pitman and idler arm at the same time a few months ago. I haven't driven the truck much but about a month ago I had a high speed vibration issue, it sucked. I had the tires balanced, and that didn't help. Today I had the truck in for an alignment, but the alignment wasn't out, much. However, the replacement, 5 month old idler arm is a bit bent. The shop told me that they see these crappy chinese-metal parts bend and break. The Idler arm was $20 and the new one was $80, made by "Moog" I think.


Anyways, the vibration is gone and the truck feels a TON better! Maybe even if you checked your idler arm before, it may have bent again right away if you replaced it with a shitty one.

dude thanks so much on this response. i had just happened to search :lol: on idler arm and found this article. i have been chasing it for a while now and saw my idler arm is loose/worn and havent thought much of it. i give you :tup: :tup: for the follow-up

those idlers have a hard job to do and bigger wheels and tires just makes it harder. the stock ones just dont last long. so buy one with a warrenty that way you can swap them out every year without costing you anything extra

FWIW you can fab a 1/2 ton arm onto the s-series frame but you have to add another hole in the frame.

I just thought I'd add for people chasing unexplained vibrations. Another cause of vibrations especially in colder weather and particularly on vehicles not driven very often is tyres flat spotting after being stood a while. I'm sure a lot of us driving SyTy's are familiar with this anyway. It usually subsides as the tyres warms up, but the older the tyre, the worse it usually tends to be affected. Just thought, sorry about the spelling guys I mean TIRES.
