Part Out or Repair?

OK, looking for opinions on my problem.

If I was just paying attention to the Temp Gauge when the electric fans stopped working, it wouldn't have over-heated. A day later, the turbo started making noise and the bearings were shot. Bought a new T04B 60-1, put it in and then noticed a very loud knocking in the engine.

My mechanic says the bearings are shot and now looking for what to do with this brick.

Problem is, I owe 7k on it still and I know it will cost a lot to put it back together properly so it don't blow up again.

Other thought was to part it out, just to try to get close to the 7k and then just walk away.

Opinions, who to call or talk to about how to rebuild her if I decide to go that route?

Anyone close to Newark, DE that wants a little project and is capable?

I can't do this in my driveway, so it is sitting at a shop now til I decide.

Re: Part Out or Repair?

Is the 7k an offer?

That would be my goal in parting it out.

I know to build the motor half way decent is going to cost 6k minimum.

I hate seeing these things getting parted because there rare enough..

I'd say why not look around for a stock motor/turbo setup for sale.. they useally go pretty cheap then sell off your turbo.. you can then sell the truck as a running truck which would raise the value of the truck right

I don't know the condition of your Ty, but potentially it could be worth $7k in parts. If you try selling a broken SyTy, its going to hard to get $7k for a broken SyTy unless its has some special (usually lot of performance parts) I can see you in a rock in hard place. To get $7k back, parting it out is a hard way to do.

If your paying a mechanic to replace the turbo, etc, you may not have mechanic ability to fully part out the truck. I did part out a totalled syclone. It took me 40 hours to pull every thing apart, 40 hours to ship every thing and 40 hours answers emails/pm's/shipping quotes. You going to need the ablity to box up/ship large items. You will also need a lot of small boxes as well.

If it was me, I would probably let it sit and continue to pay down your loan. You could either sell it off broken or repair it later. I am doing a cheap motor fix for my Sy. http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=47070

Re: Part Out or Repair?

Anyone in the Northern DE area interested in doing this rebuild for me? I just don' have the time or space to take on something this big right now.

Otherwise, McCoy right now has my vote for which way to go. Built block with Vortech heads.

Question is, when it's done and back together, what will she be worth then?
