Borg Warner & Schwitzer?

OK SyTy turbo gurus, is any one familiar with this brand of turbos? Borg Warner & Schwitzer? My friend is having his LS1 built for his Camaro (2002 Camaro SS with a built LME 370 boost motor) and the builder said that they have had issues with Garrett. The builder is going with a Borg Warner & Schwitzer S80. I was reading website and it claims it can support 1300HP. My buddy is looking for 800-900 on pump.

Good turbo or should he go with something different? He asked me and I have never heard of them either. Imput and Data please.

its my camaro guys... apparently some builders are having issues with the Garret T76's and LS1's playing nice together... So my builder went with a Borg Warner unit... If you need more specifics of my build, i have the invoice in front of me i can get what ya need... :myclone:

LME 370ci Boost motor: -14cc pistons, polished and balanced crank Scat 6.125 rods
Patiot Stg III heads
46mm Wastegate
50mm BOV
All exhaust tubing 3'' or better
GodSpeed I/C
Fuel System is a Racetronixs 255 LPH and plastic fuel tank with 60LB injectors and new high flow fuel rails

Need more info on the Turbo itself though, never heard of it.... :squint:

Both those turbo brands come on big diesel engines....I can't attest to that particular unit, but I can tell you that both those names are decent reliable units in commercial trucks. I am not familiar with any performance use of these units, but lets face it all turbos do essentially the same thing.

The S475 will support 800-1100 hp. There are 3 different A/R's available for the exhaust housing .80, 1.10 & 1.32 with a 83 or 87 trim wheel.

The S475 w/ 1.32 A/R ex. housing was going for $600 a few months ago on EBAY. If you wanted a smaller A/R ex. housing it was an additional $300.
They also have a 1 year unlimited mileage no hassle/questions asked warranty.

BW has some really interesting turbos. Some of their extended-tip designs have really wide compressor maps.
If they weren't bogged down in VNT litigation, I think you'd see more of them in the market.

Schwitzer has been around for years. Porsche and VW used them a lot. I remember seeing a CART motor running Schwitzer back in the late 80s/early 90s. They're not a johnny-come-lately.

From what I know about the airwerks line, this strikes me as a fairly large turbo for your application. You'll need a pretty hefty stall to get her off the line.

maybe so lil guy, i bet some other Sy members will chime in... it all depends on how i hook. LS1 camaros and Trans Ams cut 1.3 60' times on a bad day, so you never know... its all in the tires and suspension :2cents:
