Last nite on my way home my alternator died. Decided it would charge like 20 volts. I was affraid to drive it that way so i stopped at the home depot i was by and took the wires off the back of the alt. and bolted them together. Keep in mind i make a 53 trip from work to home. I was driving fast to try to beat the darkness but didnt make it. Drove alot of the way with just 4 way flashers but had to turn the lights on. The Optima red top hung in there the whole way even mounted in the back. i thought that was pretty good considering the cooling fan, I/C pump and stuff was running the whole time. Got home and took the New 105 amp off the race car and am back in business....

I know that this might sound stupid, but what is the the reason for connecting the wires together off the back of the alternator do?

connects the circuit without going through the alternator



I had the same thing happen to me once before. The tensioner pulley broke on me while I was driving home. Turned the a/c off and drove that puppy ~50 miles to the nearest autozone to buy a new tensioner. Don't think that I would have made it much farther as the ignition started to break up, but I was amazed it made it that far.

Yes mine wouldnt hardly pull when i got home. I was amazed that i got home but it was defenitly loosing power. Got a brand new 105 amp on it now and the race car is farther from going back to the track.
