Adapters for Turbo Plumbing

I'm going to need to run the plumbing for my stock SyTy turbo.
What size are the holes? 3/8" for oil feed and 1/2" for return?
(The return hole appears larger.) 1/2" for one coolant line, and
I'm not sure what to do about the other coolant passage which
appears to be just a hole with a couple bolts on either side???

-4 AN for oil feed, -8 AN for oil return and 3/8" flex lines for the
coolant lines has been what I'm hearing. Sound about right?

Re: Adapters for Turbo Plumbing

The return should be -10 or -12 depending on how large you want to go but no less than -10.
-4 for the feed is correct.
-6 for coolant feed and return is just fine. Fittings and adapters will vary on the turbo depending on which center section is used. If you can give us some info as far as which turbo we can tell you exactly what fittings you need for it.

Re: Adapters for Turbo Plumbing

Mitsubishi TD06 is the turbo. I was measuring 10 and 12mm with my calipers, I'm assuming that's close enough to 3/8" and 1/2" connections. What about the coolant connection that is basically just an unthreaded hole with bolts on each side? What do I need to get to connect a coolant line to that side?

That's the connector I'm talking about.

Re: Adapters for Turbo Plumbing

The one that is unthreaded is the oil drain. You need to order a flange and gasket for it then it will have a 1/2npt female fitting in it. It would be easiest for that to call RPM since they have a whole kit for oil drains on stock turbos that is a very good price.
Send mrweelr a pm about the coolant fittings I believe he just swtiched from a stock style turbo so he would know the size of the coolant ones

Interesting. I think I'm confused on the ports. Is there a factory diagram?
I believe the sides with the open ports, plus a plugged port, are coolants?
And the plug on "top" that's opposite the "unthreaded plug" is the oil feed?

Why the heck does the oil drain port have to have some special flange?

Re: Adapters for Turbo Plumbing

We just finished running about 200 of the oil drain flanges for the mitsubishi turbo drains. Ours is actually 3/8" npt unlike the t4 drain which uses a 1/2"npt.

Our drain lines for the stock turbos are 8an, and the garret drain line hose is 10an. If you need just the flange, PM me, they are $10. thanks

Re: Adapters for Turbo Plumbing

I made a post last year: The correct PTE turbo coolant fitting sizes, I am 95% sure those are the same sizes you would need for the stock turbo.

Your best bet is of course to reuse all the factory lines. But the above post will help, if you don't have them and/or are determined to do it aftermarket with braided AN.

Re: Adapters for Turbo Plumbing

I don't have any factory adapters or lines, I'm putting a pulled SyTy turbo
onto my S10, so everything I need to plumb it, I need to purchase direct.

So you're saying that I need a M14x1.5 adapter for the coolant lines?
What size for the oil feed line, since its a little bit smaller than those?

Do I need elbows on BOTH of the coolant connections? Just A/C side?
Will straight connections work for the oil lines, or will either be elbows?

I'm kind of confused. You mention using 3/8" and then the M14, but are
those sizes not really far apart from each other? Am I not understanding?

Because of increasing the the oil feed line from -3 (stock) to -4 you will need a restrictor in the line because of the increased volume at the same pressure. If not you may blow out the seal in the turbo.

I get mine here...

They also have the drainback AN or PT adapters...

I have a feeling I'm going to have a collection of fittings,
adapters and hoses that I don't need when it is all said
and done. It's a factory turbo, I thought it'd be easier...

Yes re-read my thread "Correct PTE fittings", they are M14x1.5 for coolant. I used a 90* on the passenger's side and the driver's side is the real trick I talked about in that thread.

Your signature says a 99 S10 - how would we know what you need? Your A/C bracket is probably different than ours. Only you will know what you need. You're doing a custom conversion, everything will be custom to your truck. Just look at it and figure out what will fit and buy whatever you think looks best. I could have used different parts on mine than I did, I just winged it and picked what seemed right (after first locating the correct thread sizes).

The factory oil feed line into the top of the turbo had an adapter of some type, with a 90* on the end of the line. The drain comes straight down.

3/8 and M14 are close but if you re-read my thread you will understand that 3/8 is WRONG and M14 is CORRECT.

I hope I'm not coming off like a Dick but man you're biting off an ENORMOUS project, I hope you realize that, custom turbocharging your engine is NO small task... If the fittings on the turbo are showstoppers for you now You'll really have your hands full as you get further into the project. Want to know how many guys "try" to turbocharge their S10, and how many end up with a turbocharged truck that runs & drives? I would say 1 out of every 50 who try!

Re: Adapters for Turbo Plumbing

I'm using a stock turbo in pretty much the stock location, so ideally
I was going to start with the factory parts and change whatever ends
up necessary when the time comes. Since I'm using a stock turbo,
I was assuming that asking what fittings came on a stock truck was
an easy question, but it doesn't seem that anyone really knows?

The most important item I need to know is what size are the threads
on the stock turbo and what size oil and coolant lines were used on
stock trucks. The rest I will figure out in due time, I'm sure.

Is that a restrictor on the drain flange? Is that correct?
You would not want to have the restriction on the feed?

Re: Adapters for Turbo Plumbing

someone correct me if im wrong, but the restrictor is on the drain because if the oil leaves the shaft too fast, it wont lube the shaft. it will just pass right by.

Re: Adapters for Turbo Plumbing

The Oil restrictor is on the FEED line if you go from a -3 AN to a -4 AN like Windedv6 said. You want the drain to be free flowing as can be so the oil doesn't foam near the drain and cause you to lose a turbo bearing.

My turbo does not have a 3 hole port on the oil feed. Only a single threaded
port (12mm?) with the drain port having the 3 hole for the drain adapter fitting.

Re: Adapters for Turbo Plumbing

m12x1.5 pitch. Banjos may be easier then adaptors with 90 deg fittings due to clearance issues.

you don't have to restrict the oil feed on a mitsubishi turbo. 8an drain recommended.
