Dropped the Sy off for tunning and...

So the first step with my new Sy project is in place. Today I dropped it off at a performance shop for a road tune. The tuner said no problem hitting 500hp. I also want him to set up my alky injection system. It is installed but I never used it because I thought it should be tuned. The truck has ran 11.7 untuned @ 15psi. Were going to try for 20psi on pump gas for the road tune. It also only shifts 5200 rpms. I'm sure it could be taken to 6000 rpms but I'm not sure. Here is a mod list, and please give me tips if you could. One of my main questions would be, can I run more then 20psi with the alky spray. What would be pushing to much? Once it has been road tuned, we will go to the dyno and see what kind of #s she really makes. I'm not much of a numbers guy, I just want to run low 11s and be happy. Also going to have him look over everything and make any changes that would make it stronger/safer and to make sure everything is in perfect running order. Let me know what you guys think...thanks.

If I had $20,000 just burning a hole in my pocket I would be doing the same thing you are.

Dude, I wish I had that kind of money. The honest truth is, I stole this truck. 10 grand cash out the door. I still can't believe it, and I'm still waiting for my tuner to tell me it there is something majorly wrong. It runs fine, doesn't smoke. No bad sounds either, other then maybe a exhaust leak.

I promised pics here soon, the weather has been shitty. Rain for 20mins, sunshine, rain bleh bleh.

I was talking to a bud of mine today. The price of any old sports vehicle is really down. He was at an auction and nice 70's vettes were only going for 8 grand. I paid 12k for my sy 2 years ago. I bet I cant get that now.

i'm not an expert but i'm pretty sure you'll run out of injector before you'll run out of motor if the cam is matched to those heads even with the alky. and you might look at the turbo i think you'll be maxxing it out pretty quick too. i think that might be your boost limiter.

Only time will tell, can't wait to hear the verdict...

6,000 rpm is way to high.stock shift points are 4,200. With A cam & other work 4,800 4,900 rpm. should be max. Need bigger injectors & A larger fuel pump if you want to go for A higher rpm. need to get A custom chip burnt for the truck or go to A stand alone system (FAST or BS3) just my .02 will be happy'er in the end & the truck will stay together, trust me pulling the motor out sucks!!!

i think mine shifts someplace in the low to mid 5000 range also, just make sure the tunner knows these trucks or you might be in trouble, good luck great deal.

i agree as above. bigger injectors, bigger turbo

i didnt see the stall of the torque converter.

i'd find what your powerband is with the cam. and size your turbo & converter together to match your cam.

I do have the FAST system. It also does have a after market electric fuel pump. As for rpms, that seems insanly low to me. Then again I come from a different type of built vehicle.

As for the tuner, he is very smart. Chris (From Red Shift Motorsports) is well known here in PA. As for knowing a lot about Syclones, I don't think that is his thing. He has promised to do all the research before even tackling anything. He always gets a game plan for a project, and then call his customer and talks to them about exactly what he wants to do, how much it will cost. He always gives feedback daily, and asks questions. He also answers questions you have, and if he does not know the answer, he finds the answer.

really hope this works out for you. i wouldn't let some kind of tuning guy tuning my truck, if he doesn't knw these.
a friend of mine brought his (clean stock sy 20k miles) too a dyno, and asked for a tune..20min later he needed a new engine.

Where are you at? I looked up Red Sport Motorsports and it looks like they are in Dallas. I live in Williamsport but my job takes me to Dallas a few times a month.

Re: Dropped the Sy off for tunning and...

i'm curious what makes tuning these trucks a challenge once you switch to an aftermarket engine mangemet system? i can understand special knowledge when using a stock ecm but i would think a fast ran turbo motor is just that

That story scares me. It has been untuned for over a year from the prev. owner. Like I said, I hear no knock and it never smokes. I'm new but I do know that just because it looks like it is running good does not mean it is.

The thing that sucks is, it took me about an hour and 45min to get to Dallas, PA. To have to drive there, pick it up and take it somewhere else would waste more money. However, I do want it done right.
