ATR CAI install (installed pics)

Ok got a few questions

1- The vacuum ball vac hose was disconnected. Would that effect performance?
2- Where do you put the vacuum ball? Leave it in its stock location? Since it was mounted to the battery tray do you mount it somewhere else or just mount it where it was somehow?
3- Going to mount the battery where the ATR relocate was. Do you use the tray? And do you need more battery cable to do so?

Once I get this figured out I will post pics up!

Pics of ATR installed. I used my Team Green filter alittle better fit. Since I coulnt get any 90 degree couplers or any hardware from my auto store... I bought a 2.5" rad hose and cut the 90 degree bend out of it and used that as the coupler for the turbo inlet to pipe. :p

1. Not as long as you plug it. If you don't, it's gonna be a vacuum leak... Those of us that have deleted the vacuum ball and redone our vacuum lines delete the line that went to it altogether.

2. I relocated mine to the "stock syclone parts box" in the basement. You can put it anywhere you want if you just have to have it... Removing it has no serious ill effects. HVAC and cruise both still work fine. But the doors open and close a *little* slower. Small price to pay for more free space under the hood

.

3.If you already have the ATR setup, the battery just lays on the plate on the bottom and gets "pinched" by the cover that goes in the wheel well.

The ATR kit came with battery cable extensions. The positive is best routed through the fender down to the battery. The negative cable is between the wheel well sheet metal and frame on my truck. HTH's

A few pics of the CAI box clearance issues with hard pipe off filter. Looks like the AC lines are in the way. Also what type of flex hose did you ATR guys use for the turbo inlet to filter pipe?

Oh, nonsense. They may still 'work', but it won't be "fine". Especially the cruise.

My Ty cruises the Interstate at 2"-5" of vacuum. (Not much). It doesn't take much of an incline to put it into boost. The cruise won't work at all with positive pressure [boost]. On longer grades, the vacuum reservoir becomes depleted, and the truck slows down, because there's no vacuum to pull the cruise on 'harder'. I'd actually like a larger reservoir for cruise performance.

The HVAC doors continuously changing state will drive you crazy as well. I think the majority of guys that remove the vacuum ball also remove the A/C and cruise as well, and these 'issues' never surface.

If you're keeping the A/C and cruise, keep the vacuum reservoir. Just find a different location for it.

I noticed this happen on the drive back from CO! I was wondering why the damn thing wouldnt pull hills. I had to keep giving it gas to get it into boost to pull the hills. :squint:

Re: ATR CAI install

when i got my truck back from the body shop, the vacume ball was in my back seat. (and all the tabs from the new fender clading were cracked off and half the lights didn't work) cruise doesn't even activate.

That air filter looks a little small, also i would wrap that turbo to ic pipe, its right over the hot side of the turbo.

Hmm, never had a problem with my truck and I still have cruise in it and use it regularly. I guess the "hills" here in the midwest aren't as big as the ones out west. I also replaced the vacuum lines with silicone ones. If you have a syclone with stock vacuum lines, they are seventeen years old now...

Re: ATR CAI install (installed pics)

I got rid of my vacuum ball 4-5 years ago and never looked back. I use my Cruise a lot on the freeway (60-75 MPH) and never noticed a problem. Now that you pinpoint the conditions (climbing a long grade and accelerating) you make me want to try it and see if it happens to mine.

Once you start modifying the trucks (even a simple air filter on a bone stock truck), obviously space becomes a serious issue and some compromises have to be made. The fact that I never noticed my "dysfunctional" cruise suggests this isn't a very big compromise to make.
