i searched "extrude hone" after the asking and looks like its still done and still too much freakin money. at least for me. think i'll just do port matching on everything and call it good.

in case anyone else is interested here's the website

and here's a thread with more about it.

I had mine done by extrude hone.
How much did they charge for that? 200+?

The problem w/extrude hone is that they cannot guide where the abrasive clay/putty should go.

You need to get in there with your porting tools & get where you need to & can get to first, then you can send it to them.

Hand ported by me. I think Dean Higson ran a 10.42 with his syclone with nitto drags on the back and regular radials on the front.

A good hand port job would be *much* more valuable than extrude hone.

Would be interesting to see an on-head flow comparison between stock, extrude, and hand ported.

We need reply quotes, just like smiley's. This can be the answer to a lot of questions here.

I just port matched mine to my heads' exhaust posts and removed a little bit of the casting roughness here n there.
Nothing scientific just wanted to make sure they mated up better.

After reading Vizard's article, it really sounds like Renz upper intake would be a really nice feature for our trucks. I am still waiting on the results...

It also makes me wonder about this post starting on post #11...

do not port the lower portion of the exhaust port. it's that way for a reason.

I guess I need to read some more articles on porting the exhaust... Anyone have a cliff notes version or a quick why?

Low velocity air on the short side turn... by cutting the lower part down, you in effect make the turn sharper.

Things do get ported on the short side in full-competition port jobs... it's nothing the home porter wants to mess with, though.

By the same token, you really don't want to mess with the floor on the intake side, either.
