Last Day on the Job Today...

Well, I spent my last day on the job today at Kicker. They wanted me to leave at the end of the day without saying anything, then they're going to announce it to all the employees tomorrow morning.... really weird not being able to say "Goodbye" to anyone :(

My wife and I will be heading back to Sheridan, Wyoming.... I sure am going to miss all my SyTy buddies down here in the South! - Dave, Troy, Brandon, Jeremy, new friend Mike, Justin, Dmetri - great bunch of guys  ....everyones invited to Wyoming, and Julie and I will take any and all on a guided tour of Yellowstone, the Tetons, Mount Rushmore, Devils Tower..... (and Sturgis, if you come on Aug 1st! :D )

Will hopefully be around long enough to see Dave get the new motor in his Sy fired up (http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=61405).

On to new adventures, but always an enthusiastic member of the SyTy community!! :D

what did you do at kicker? My buddy works there

Hey Ken,
Almost two years ago Kicker bought the company my wife and I started back in '96 - SoundGate. I was the Business Unit Director for SoundGate and was responsible for direction and performance on a day-to-day basis..... who is your buddy??? I'm sure I know him.

That sucks that you're leaving Rob. Did you tell Kicker that Fosgate was better or something? I've always wanted to visit Jackson though so maybe I'll take you up on that offer
It was nice to meet you last sunday and you got a very nice truck. The bright side is you'll have MUCH BETTER weather!

Hey Jeremy... it was an amicable departure... things just turned out different from what all of us had originally envisioned..... Kicker is a GREAT company.... some of the nicest people you'll ever meet - the owner included!

Thanks for the kudos on the truck..... and yes the weather will be much better, up until....Oh about November, then it will suck big time till about mid April... will take getting used to -40 for those couple of weeks in mid January!

Re: Last Day on the Job Today...

Does anyone have thoughts on the best way to transport my Sy to Wyoming??

I'm thinking about putting a car cover on it then wrapping it in pallet wrap (visqueen)... would be towed behind a Uhaul (I don't trust the moving companies with it).

Any other ideas?

Depends on your level of paranoia... I've always hauled mine open-air. Nothing on but a good coat of wax.

I think your wrap idea will do more harm than good.... scratches, etc.

I'd load it on a trailer, and fab a "rock shield" for the front. Got a 1/8" sheet of checkerplate on the front of the trailer for this reason... keeps all the splash/chips out.

If you're really that concerned about keeping it nice, you need to do the enclosed thing. If you drive it places normally, you won't get anything worse on the trailer than you would driving it on the street.

I've obsessed about these things in the past as well, and found that it was a lot of work for nothing.

Personally, I can't think of a much cooler drive than through the Black hills in a Sy. Free it from the bonds of trailer-queendom.

I get as far as Gillette from time to time... might have to give ya a buzz when I'm headed that way.

Well, I have to admit Dig, that I'm kind of the queen of paranoia
Not really, but I do like my things to stay new looking for as along as possible. I appreciate the input. The reason I was going to go with the car cover and plastic wrap is that I can just see those dual tires on the rear of the Uhaul slaughtering the front of the Sy... not sure they'd appreciate me putting a shield on the front of their trailer, either.

I thought if I stretched the visquene tight enough it would keep the car cover from moving at all.

Oh, decisions, decisions.

You'd better give me a call if you're going to be in Gillette! That's only about 80 miles.. I'll buy lunch :D

If you want to keep your paint do what Dig suggested. A good coat of wax. Maybe even leave it on there and rub it out when you get to Wyoming. A car cover is not a good idea. The wind will catch it no matter how tight you wrap it and it will act like sandpaper on your paint.

A lot of people would rate me in the mid 30s on the scale, so we're not far off.
(18k mile truck) I've got a inch-thick layer of moving blankets on it for a car cover.

Short of an enclosed trailer, though, wax it really well and load it up... wash it at destination.

Crazy idea, but if you got a big enough u-haul or Ryder... you could drive it in. Rig some 2x8 ramps with blocks over the wheel humps. You'll have to Bo Duke out the windows, though, unless you pushed it in.

Oh, I'm sorry Ken!!! Just kidding.... We had just moved into the brand new Kicker building two weeks ago and Kip was begrudgingly making the move... I think they finally 'convinced' him that he needed to join the rest of us.... His new digs were just outside my office door! (oops, maybe that's why he didn't want to move over with us  )

rent 2 uhauls and put the syclone in one

I guess I should have bought that Syclone bra that was for sale on the board last week.... that would have kept the rock chips off the front!

i am just about as picky as anyone,i have made 4 long trips on a uhaul trailer, they are nice and low and close to the road ,i just made sure i had something with good mudflaps on and i never had a problem.from ny to nc 4 times.i put just a soft sheet over the front shut the hood and tied it up behind the wheels

Re: Last Day on the Job Today...

Thanks for that idea about the sheet Brian... your truck is the nicest I think I've seen so I'd surely trust your experience with that! Sounds like I'm going to be putting on a HEAVY coat of paste wax, putting a sheet over the front, and hittin' the road!

Re: Last Day on the Job Today...

i just made sure it stayed somewhat tight and didnt whip around, also i never thought i would say this but i tried this new turtle wax the other day called platinum liquid and the stuff is awesome, comes off easier than anything i have used so far,i have always hated turtle wax products.About the only thing i had on the sheet was some grease that must of fell of a truck that was it,and the first trip the paint was only 2 months old.
