How accurate is your fuel level gauge?

On my Ty, my fuel level gauge sucks. Its not the "GM active fuel level" that bothers me, its the fact that I can drive 170 miles from full to half, then only about 80 miles from half to empty. When it hits 1/4 tank that is only 2 gallons remaining.

I tried bending the little arm in the tank during my numerous fuel pump issues to correct the problem but havent really made it any better.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Next time (should there be a next time) I think I'll verify that when the sender is at half throw, that the gauge reads half, and go from there.

Mine says 3/4 when its actually full. I don't think any of our gauges are accurate to tell the truth, my speedo has been reading 20 low since I bought the truck. Oil psi is low, coolant temp never moves and the odo is slow, trip odo is inoperative. Have you tried replacing the sending unit when you did the fuel pump?

No. It moves through the full range, and doesnt seem to get "stuck" anywhere, I just hate that half is nowhere near half.

All of my gauges were reading crazy...not inop, but all were just off by various amounts. I took a dremel with the wire brush attachment and cleaned the main ground for the IP (one at driver's side front intake, and one at rear of driver's side cylinder head). This helped all of the gauges read much more accurately. However, my fuel gauge still reads 3/4 when full, so I'm sure it's a prob in the tank.

My fuel reads correct when full. At anything below half tank, it will starve on hard acceleration due to fuel slosh. When it gets below 1/4 tank there's a serious risk of running out of gas. One time I pushed it to maybe 1/8 tank (this was years ago so the memory is foggy) and the engine started stumbling and I *BARELY* made it to a gas station rolling downhill..

mine is the same way and when I did my pump install back in 2000, i checked the gauge when I held the float at 1/2 level, it all seemed correct but the 2nd half of the tank drops way faster than the first half.

Mine works great, even though half isn't really half, but it's close enough.

My fuel guage is dead on. I ran my tank low to change my pump. At just above empty after I removed the tank I had 1 2/3 gallons left. My temp guage was a little low untill I installed a electric fan then it started to act right. The boost guage reads the same as my pod guage. Oil pressure seems to be as accurate as the oil guage under the hood. No problems with the speedo or the odo and trip. Guess I'm lucky with that.
