1993 Black Typhoon......help?!?!

I have a 93 Typhoon with 85500 miles on it. The motor locked up on me and I was wondering what I can get for it as is before I spend the time/money of putting a new lower on it or fixing the current lower if possible. I had it towed to a shop where I was told that they were able to manually turn it over and they got it started. It was knocking while running, but they were able to drive it out of the shop. The turbo, cooler is still good. Needs new lower or possibly work done to current lower. Wont know everything for sure until it is taken apart. I will not be driving it anywhere as it is now. It is missing two pieces of cladding (rear passenger side corner and front driver side wheel well) and needs new exhaust. Other than that it is in good shape. I was offered $8000 last week for it before I got engine problems. Just let me know what you would be willing to pay for it or at least what you all think it is worth. Also, any options for me to fix this would be considered also. Such as new lower or motor. I do have pictures that I can send since it wont let me attach on here.

i would say $3000-3500. a new motor is pricey like 4000 pricey, 2 pieces of cladding used in good shape $400-500 new exhaust i believe there are only a few options like rpm....300-400??
i live in madison, my buddy is interested, if you want to sell.

Ok I will let you know what I plan on doing. I might want to fix it and then sell. I have a very good mechanic that always has projects on the side. He will take it apart and give me some pricing options. He is not sure, but thinks maybe any used 4.3 can be used for the swap if need be...I am not sure if he has worked with typhoons before though. Is this correct? Thanks for all your help.

Not just any 4.3 can replace a SyTy can be swapped in. Lower compression pistons are required. I believe Ordinary 4.3 pistons run about 9.5 to 1 Compression and SyTys run at 8.35 to 1 compression. The main caps on the SyTy engine are unique. Others can give you a more extensive list than I can, but I do know that you cannot just swap any old 4.3 in.

just get a shop to rebuild the short block. your looking at maybe tops 2k if everything looks ok and it is just bearings and rings and maybe a hone600-1000. then sell the ty for what it is worth. 7-10k

but..it's missing 2 pieces of cladding and needs a muffler, 6k tops if it ran with those parts missing. 7-8 with it running and no parts missing/needing replaced.

also a regular 4.3 form say a 92-95 blazer jummy will probably last 1-2 weeks tops you will blow the side off a piston in a heartbeat with 15 psi.....it will happen i have done it.:( 2k miniumum for a shortblock, plus gaskets, plus labor to put it in....you are looking at a miniumum of $3000 just to get by bare bones......more realelastic is 3500 -- 4000 if you knew how to do it all yourself it could be done for substantialy less like 2500 but it sounds like you are gonna have someone elese do it.

warmpancakes is right....add any rust knock 1000 off the price.....people see rust on these trucks and shy away.....quickly.:2cents:

There are people here who have complete Sy/Ty engines for sale, for FAR less then $3500. Just do that, bolt it in a go. Then sell it for $7500.

Thanks for the input. I was just wondering since I can get a 4.3 in decent condition cheap right now from a friend. The mechanic is also a friend so he will do it on the side for a reasonable price. Doesn't sound like this is an option though.....:(....possibly be able to rebuild the existing motor if there is not too much damage? What to do what to do?!?!
