NC 1993 Typhoon for sale/trade

Final Update: It is sold. Really nice soldier from Fayetteville, NC picked it up today.

We have decided to sell or trade our 1993 Typhoon. My daughter needs a good, reliable vehicle and the Typhoon is not for her. I still have the Syclone and the Typhoon has been sitting for quite some time - only driven to keep the fluids going and keep the battery up. It is black on black, 104,000 miles, very good shape, 20g turbo, needs some fine tuning, a few parts here and there, but overall a very good example. I have a detailed ad on Craigslist I can forward to any interested parties and I have a lot of pictures. We were hoping to get $8500 for it or trade it for a sport 2 or 4 door car a 17 year old would like. You can reach me through here, call me at (701) 339-7019 or email me at miles.kyser@gmail.com. The Typhoon is in Hope Mills, NC. Thanks.

Old picture but looks the same.

I also felt I should be a little more specific on what we (she) is looking for to narrow it down a bit. She likes BMW's, Audi's, Acura's, Scion's - anything similar to those that are sporty in appearance. I want her to drive a tank myself, but that won't fly. Something 2003 and above, decent on gas, cheap to insure and reliable are key factors. Most importantly, it needs to be a safe vehicle.

If your car is not equivalent in value I have no problem taking cash for the difference. That would actually be preferred so I could stash a little aside for her college.

Re: 1993 Typhoon for sale/trade

As requested, the information from my CL ad:

The Typhoon is not perfect. It needs a few interior parts that can be found fairly easily by someone with a little time to do the leg work. The leather is in very good shape, as is the carpet. One of the zippered pockets in the back is missing a zipper. It can either be found at a junk yard off a Brevada or taken somewhere to have a new zipper added. There is a small "pop out" panel covering the pressure release vent on the door that fell off which is a very simple fix - new wood ring cut to fit covered with fabric and staple/screwed onto door panel. I am 1.5 hours away from it and have not had a chance to get over there and fix it. The TY has a nice aftermarket stereo with component speakers, subwoofer and amplifier - very clear and loud. The custom door panels and rear speaker panels were done while the TY was in Japan. The exterior is in very good condition, as well as the cladding. There is a small crack in the back bumper but very minor and hardly noticable. The paint is in pretty good shape and was repainted at some point (no peeling clear coat or rust). A previous owner removed an alarm system and, in the process, disconnected the interior light switches which now do not come on when the door is opened. I was not concerned with it so it was never corrected. All pertinent lights work and dash lights all work when headlights are on. The A/C did work but there is a SLOW leak in the lines. It was never fixed because the TY is never driven and was going to eventually be converted to the new A/C system anyway. The heat does work (last time I checked). The rims are aftermarket Z06 style. Tires are good. I do not have the original rims, unfortunately. I also have the factory roof rack but chose to leave it off. It looks better without it.

Mechanically, it is very sound. Many new parts have been added and it runs smooth. The 20g turbo and Velosyty chip together should make this a good performer once it is dialed in properly. The only work this Typhoon needs is someone with the knowledge to tune and adjust the chip/ecm and wastegate (and whatever else). Unfortunately, I never had a chance to get it to the right person and absolutely refused to take it to anyone not familiar with the Typhoons and Syclone. Right now it drives fine but seems to be a little sluggish under harder acceleration due to the needed adjustments. You can tell it wants to take off but something in the tune/ecm settings are holding it back. It just needs a special touch to get it where it needs to be.

The parts listed below are some of the many new things added over the last few years and there have been less than 1500 miles added to the Typhoon since it was done.

Boost solenoid is a new GM.

Coil is MSD blaster with MSD wires.

NGK UR5 plugs.

GM cap and rotor. Ignition is stock which is different than coil.

Magnaflow cat w/3" cat-back exhaust.

160 degree thermostat.

Temp sensor.

Valve seals.

Leak down test on each cylinder.

Set the timing back to stock 0 degrees.

All the vacuum lines are silicone.

Intercooler pump is out of a Ford Lightning, Bosch pump - bigger than stock Typhoon pump.

New battery.

Napa starter.

Napa heater core.

Walbro 255 fuel pump with Ractronix harness bought from Racetronix.

Front torsion bars have been adjusted - more adjustment needed to lower again after new shocks installed.

RPM cold air intake.

Rebuilt 20g/14cm Mitsubishi turbo and new wastegate.

Velosyty chip.

Beltech springs and shocks.

Thanks. I am trying like hell to find a way to get it back from mom for myself. It has the ability to be a fast, yet "stock-ish" looking TY. If I did not need to spend about $6000 on the Syclone I probably could talk the wife into it. Oh well.

Re: 1993 Typhoon for sale/trade

Quick update.....we no longer need a vehicle for my daughter so we are just wanting to sell it.

I have been out of the loop for some time now on the values of these SY's and TY's. The job and family gets all of my time. I could use some honest opinions. Based on the work that has been done to the Typhoon and its' condition (see post above), is our asking price unreasonable or is the market just (still) that bad for these? We really need to get it sold because all it is now is a lawn ornament, but even at the asking price there will be a LOT of money lost. I realize you can't always get back what you put in, but damn. We are not hurting for the cash but I hate to have it just sit there. From what I can tell, they are not going for much, unless they are extremely low miles and all original.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: 1993 Typhoon for sale/trade

nice truck! would you perhaps be interested in a trade for an excellent condition 88 ircocz? 305 and 5 speed! check out my ad here if you're interested: http://www.thirdgen.org/techboard/camaros-sale/707784-1988-camaro-iroc-z.html

Good looking Iroc. Love em. Brings back memories every time I see one.

I appreciate the offer, but we just need to sell it. I found my daughter a car and I certainly don't see a use for another vehicle. If that was the case, believe me - the Typhoon would be staying with me.

Good luck with the sale.

Glad to see you found a good buyer Miles. I am also happy it went to a good home, some days I miss the first Ty I ever owned. What work are you doing on the Sy?

Re: 1993 Typhoon for sale/trade

Hi Evan! Good to hear from you. I think he will take good care of it. He sounds like an enthusiast that wants to make it the TY it should be. Hopefully he ends up with more time than I have.

To be honest, I have not done much to the Syclone. My parts stock is almost where it needs to be so now I just need to get them installed - by me or a shop. It is killing me to see it sit in the garage not being driven, but at least I have it with me. Can't go far with a busted radiator!.....lol. I see you got another Syclone? Shoot me a PM with your email and fill me in on your progress with the toys.
