3 wire DM cable?

The new truck came with a built in DM cable a small black box with a light on the side with 2 black wires and 1 red.

What is the 3rd wire, I am thinking Data, Ground, and Pwr???

They ran both blacks to a ground and the red to the top right aldl port.

The top right ALDL pin is ground also. The bottom right pin is the data. http://cable.invisibill.net/ has some links that may help you figure out what you've got in there.

Note that in my pic, the "DATA" label goes to the > at the end of the schematic and the solid blue line connected to it, not the blue/white line near the label.

The box and cable are sealed so will I fry the cable if I connect what I think is the positive lead to pwr and it is not correct?

Possibly. Depends on what wires you hook where. I suppose you might even damage the ECM if you put power or ground to the wrong pin.

Any chance of talking to the previous owner and finding out exactly what's what?
