ABS and Parking brake light

I've done a search on it and i have found no conclusive answers. Is there any way I can get those stupid lights to go out! My brakes work fine and my E-brake is not set, and it works fine as well. Is there a real problem with my ABS? It seems to work fine. Is there any way to reset those lights so they may go out? Will pulling ECM fuses reset the ecm? I hate those lights. They're bright at night. I have to put a pill bottle in front of them so it wont shine in my eyes, then people think i have some illness because I always have that bottle in my gauge cluster.

the brake light comes on with the abs light when there is a abs problem... usually the abs system shuts down too.. you sure it still works fine? you can clear the abs code by turning on your ignition, connect terminals (ahh forget the letters, the top right one and one over from the bottom left) for 2 seconds, you'll hear your abs motor whirl, then disconnect, and do it again for another two seconds... again it will make a noise... first time kills the abs light, second time kills the brake light, when you start your truck they should both be gone... drive it 20 feet and see if they come back... good luck, to this day i can't get rid of the damn things for more than a day

we are talking about the paperclip and the terminal right below the steering column, correct? on the underside of the dash?

edit: also, terminal in the very top right and the very bottom left, but in 1? correct?

ok, lights went off and they came right back on. I kept it in there and it blinked 8 times, then 6 times (code 86 i presume)

What is a code 86?
is there a database that has all the codes?

Code 86: Check the light and wiring for a short circuit.

Sounds like you have an electrical gremlin somewhere in your dash.

edit: ok, im @ work now (off the clock), so im gonna take it up to the chevy dealer and let them look at it. (about 200 yards from here). i'll keep you posted...

Well i'll be go to hell.
He hoked his programmer up to it and pulled at least 4 different codes. Tested the abs unit, it worked. He asked if anyone has been mesibng with wires. And no to my knowledge no wires have been fucked with. Abd he said, the codes aren'nt pulling up anymore. It's fixed (for the time being) I took it up to 45 mph, so it retested itself. I did not try to stop hard ands test it, might some other day.. but its fixed for now. I'm as giddy as a schoolgirl

I know it sucks but pull the cluster and change the bulb and disconnect your battery to clear the codes stored.

Dammit.

My lights came back on. My brake was a LOT easier to depress while I had ABS. Is this normal? Since I've owned it, the lights have always been on, and have never been given the chance to drive it with ABS, until today. I wasn't stopping hard or anything, just normally depressing my brake to turn into my friend's driveway, and my lights came on. I later did a hard braking and sure enough, no ABS, there is a long black mark there now...

How much is it to replace my entire ABS unit with a 100% new one? And would that solve my problems?

UPDATE: When I got home after my lights came BACK on, I took them off myself using a paperclip. Well, that was last week. A week later, they're STILL OFF! I used my ABS today for the first time EVER. First time for my truck in probably over 140,000 miles!! My abs unit now checks itself after hitting 7 mph, (never did this while the lights were on) Night driving is sooo much better now. Those lights are more distracting that you would think. I'll update if anything changes

the abs engages after (20 feet?) or about 10 mph.... reason for not doing that when you had the lights off was because it was disengaged....

Hi I`m a new member and thought I should share this with you guys My Typhoon had the ABS light on for the longest time and I tried everything until I spoke to a buddy of mine at the local Chevy dealer and we hooked up the Tech 2 scanner on it and it kept reading code 81 which is a bad brake light circuit. My brake lights where still working normally but the problem was not the brake light switch but the cruise switch that is right next to it it had broken and I had it strapped toguether but the ABS ECU was still recognizing this as a problem. My buddy said this a very common problem because the switch itself is very fragile. And the good news is that I took care of it with $14.00....Good Luck :D
