After Market Remote Oil Filter

I want to ditch the stock remote oil filter set up, not because I don't like it or because I think it could be better, but because I need that space on the fender. So I want to get an aftermarket remote oil filter set up and have been looking in Jegs and am wondering if the perma cool set up would be ok. I think I just want to buy the mounts (for the block and filter) and do my own lines with AN fittings. Can anyone point me in the right direction of what I would be looking for as far as the block mount?

Re: After Market Remote Oil Filter

i just tapped my original block mount where the original lines connected 3/8 npt and threaded in an fittings and ran my own braided lines to a diffrent filter mount and a cooler mounted in front of the radiator.

Re: After Market Remote Oil Filter

Check out canton racing, they have some real nice cm filters and billet mounts for mounting to your block.

If you look at my webshots page in my sig I have some pics of mine on there somewhere.

If you use there block adaptor you need to buy a threaded nipple from the dealer to attach it to the engine.

I like there filters because they last a long time and you replace them, not a fan of washing an oil filter because there could be metal stuck in it etc I would rather just replace it.

I have one of there screw on filters for my so gt also.

Very nice quality pieces.

Good luck with the new build:tup:

P/N 14081300. $5.00 Lets you mount a Wix 51040 right to the block. No fittings, or lines to leak. I assume you're "ditching" the radiator-mounted oil cooler. So why retain the 'remote' filter? Ditch it too.

I would imagine going to the remote filter would cool it some no? I haven't had the cooler for years. I was contemplating a log cooler and mounting all of this under the truck somewhere.

Thats not a bad idea.

Re: After Market Remote Oil Filter

I have an aluminum rad with oil cooler and I am using that along with these canton products. With all the heat these trucks have I like having the extra cooling of the oil cooler My truck has a half fill block, I did not get to drive it much this yr but I do know when I was driving on a 80ish degree day I could make the engine temp get down to 140 while driving because I forgot to turn the electric fan off.
To me its a little extra insurance to help keep the engine cool.

Re: After Market Remote Oil Filter

The oil coolers are to keep the oil cool because the oil will break down correct? This being the case, would more frequent oil changes justify having the spin on block filter?

From what I have been told that is true but I have also been told cooler oil also helps the engine run cooler. Once you think about it it seems to make sense so thats why I kept mine.

Once my engine is broke in a will be running a completely different oil than everyone else and I will be checking my oil temps to see how they vary with the different oils and then I can see what the coolant temp change etc is.
Just to bad the sy is locked up in storage and not available till april

AMS oil has some real nice setups with single or 2 stage filters, filters down to 10microns or something crazy. You could also try Hamburger's part# 3300 (single) or 3310 (dual filter).

Re: After Market Remote Oil Filter

I had the Moroso one with 12AN lines, you can use up to a 2 quart filter with it. I had a B&M "SuperCooler" with it, mounted in front of the radiator.

I did this too.(to the filter housing) Easy. Low budget. Bought four 90 degree 3/8 NPT fittings and ran hose (for now). Allows you to mount the housing where ever it will fit. You can also do this in stainless braided if you feel like making it "deluxe".

On a side note. Who knows which hole is inlet and which is outlet on the block mounted adapter??

What should this part look like? I thought it would be a spin on adapter and while I did not have them pull it, on the diagram it just looked like a nipple and was listed as a fitting.

Re: After Market Remote Oil Filter

Yeah I just went and bought at GM, $12.00, you were $7.00 off. :lol:What really sucks is that I bought an adapter yesterday at a speed shop. I totally forgot that ours are not the same as SBC.
