Alarm and remote start?

I want to get a remote start installed on my tahoe. I have installed some in the past and i plan on trying this install as well. I have a 2002 z71 tahoe. I know i need to get the passlock 2 because of the current factory alarm. The factory alarm as everyone knows is garbage. I was thinking about the VIPER 5901 with the 2 way pager. I know it's an extreme and more then i probably need but they are at such a good price 229.00 that I dont see why i should not go for it. The reviews are great as i can see as well.

The question is this....
If i get the 5901 which is the alarm and remote start what will happen to the factory system. Does it get untouched and left alone or removed? If i go for just a remote start version do i need to carry around TWO remotes one factory which i have and the one that comes with the viper system? I was told that i will just need to carry the new remote if i go with the viper remote start and it will lock and unlock your doors but does it activate the factory alram when it locks the doors???

Is there anyone on this site that is a dealer for car alarms that can help or maybe direct me to a better unit?

Thanks

If you use a DLPKGM interface it will arm and disarm the factory alarm as well as give you a tach output wire. It will also due passlock bypass and doorlocks all from the data bus wire in the ald plug- purple wire. The 5901 is a great piece we sell lots of them.

If you cant find one local im sure i could help yuou out. It also needs to be programed before use.

Thanks so much for the information. How far are you from New York? Also from the research i just did it looks like DLPKGM is for passlock 3. I have 2002 which i was told i need to get passlock 2. Does this unit do both? If you can PM me a price for the 5901 or another brand that you recommend and the passlock i would appreciate it.

Thanks

Re: Alarm and remote start?

compustar is by far the best system out there, spread spectrum.2002 was the last year before they ran all the alarm etc into the datastream wire, you can get to all the wires at the bcm under the steering wheel, you can do a alarm start in that truck very easy and cheap,ps the compustar will SMOKE the viper in range etc.Passlock 2 can be bypassed with just resistors if you want to.Just make sure you power up the white wire in the main harness as a ignition or it will give you a check engine trand lockup light on start up,You do not need to power up the brown wire, just the orange for the heater. That truck can be done without any modules, lock and unlock and hatch are all in the bcm under the wheel, also disarm for the alarm is in there.Compustar will do over a mile of range!!

Cloneman sorry but after the second sentence i was more confused then ever. HAHAH

Yes i have heard about compustar. I will look in that product right now. As for the bypass with resistors i dont mind spending the extra 25 or so dollars ont he passlock unit like this one.

Re: Alarm and remote start?

thats fine you can use that also,I sold some compustar units a few years back to some members before I sold the shop in ny,they might be able to give you some feedback, trust me nothing compares to them,But DEI I think still makes the best modules out there, just not a big fan of there systems

Re: Alarm and remote start?

if you buy the interface you should be able to do it yourself, the resistor route is a little tricky if you never done it before,I could even tell you over the phone how to do it,I bet I have done over 5,000 remote starts if not more lol

Cloneman - I'm on the compustar website and WOW there is alot to choice from. Which one do you recommend? I have the factory alarm but i really wanted to add a whole new unit with alram and remote start. The truck is a 2002 so i dont feel the factory alarm really anything to be impressed about.

I also was told that the batteries die alot on the 2 way pagers. Should i stay away from the two way pagers? Are there any other reasons to get it besides the LCD displays?

Thanks so much fort he help. I want to have all this done by the end of this month.

Re: Alarm and remote start?

the 900mhz goes 3000 feet, the 2 wayss with display goes over a mile,So unless you need the range or want to see the conframation from the 2way you could get the one way remote,I just like the 2wayss for the range etc,yes they do use more juice, get a good recharable set of batteries.

Do you still have that point of contact with the vendors? If you can answer my questions above i would greatly appreciate it.

thanks

Re: Alarm and remote start?

sorry vin when I sold the company it went with it,Sometimes you can find them on ebay, compustar really watches there products so it might be hard to find ,but check it out sometimes they are on there.Usually you will find dealers selling them which is a big no no with them,a dealer will make about 80 bucks on the unit on ebay.I think cost on the 2wayss as was around 199.But this was a few years back

Re: Alarm and remote start?

Well I like the 2 way ss alarm start, the key fob is a little large but the range etc is what I like.If you want something smaller go with the 900mhz but the range is cut in half,Alaskan ty also bought one maybe ask him on some feedback, and compustart customer service and support is by far the best.I have had systems out of the warranty and they still covered them!Other dealers etc might try to tell you that there stuff goes as far etc etc trust me they will not beat the range of these, never.

Re: Alarm and remote start?

I always had viper or python alarms. They are all made from DEI and are just about the same. My friend had a store that sold them so everytime i got another vehicle that was the first thing i did was install an alarm/remote start. Never had a problem. Distance was great and i was happy.

He's now in a different business so he no longer deals with them but from my research the Viper 5901 caught my eye. I like the remote design, the distance, features and over all i got a great price. Ebay was not suppose to allow the sales of them becasue viper states of the complex installs a viper dealer needs to complete the install. Anyway i did the install and i love it. The price was 239.00 shipped. I called a few local guys just to get an idea and they wanted up to 700 dollars for the 5901 installed.

Cloneman was much help and i was very close to get the one he recommended but again when i saw the 5901 i jumped ship and went with it.
