anyone running 0411 PCM?

Sent an e-mail out to EFI Connections (http://www.eficonnection.com) asking some q"s.

They (Mike) responded that they just did a conversion last year for a Typhoon owner. Anyone on this board??

I want to run the Ty engine on the 2002 0411 PCM, but have questions about the CKP sensor and cam sensor mechanical hook ups.

Anyone do this?

Re: anyone running 0411 PCM?

did you get anywhere with this? I am about to attempt the same thing myself, I'll try using RPM crank trigger set up..

There are a few of us that are going to use the 3x factory reluctor ring behind a 96+ vortec timing cover. Everything else falls into place. (granted a few sensors have to be changed and a few wiring connectors)

I trust you are using the 411 engine harness?

There are a few companies that make a dual signal dizzy (like the one RPM sells) but there seems to be ZERO tech support for it, so we opted for the crank reluctor route with a newer S10 dizzy with the cam signal in it.

I plan on taking half a day off tomorrow and pulling the harmonic balancer etc off. May do a write up one day too.

Re: anyone running 0411 PCM?

Is the advantage the ability to run a MAF?

Not necessary as you can convert to speed density if you use HP tuners. (there is a debate in itself)

My reasoning is because my '02 dash will not fully function with the TY ECM and since the 700R decided to stop upshifting, there is a 4L60E going in. (now I have two reasons)

All tuning can be done with the 411PCM (including trans shifts) without having to add any additional hardware. -Just need an interface eg. HP tuners, Tunercat, tunepro etc.

Re: anyone running 0411 PCM?

Are far into this are you, or is it still in the "I think this should work" stage?

If this is a SyTy engine, the front 96-up cover won't fit on the block. The shape is different. All 96-up 4.3s are balance shaft engines. And the crank is different for the reluctor wheel. From the Vault:

There is one other subtle difference in the cranks, too. Any of the engines that were installed in ’96 or later and all of the ’95 "S" and "T" trucks with OBD II, including all of the Olds Bravadas, any Blazer with California emissions, and about 10% of the Blazers with federal emissions, had a reluctor wheel installed in front of the crank gear for a crank position sensor that was a part of OBD II. The raised, machined area on the snout is about .100" longer on these cranks than it was on the earlier ones so the reluctor wheel has a slight press fit. Be sure to sort out the 10105865 and 10055480 cranks with this longer, machined step and save them for the engines that have the crank position sensor.

What am I missing? Unless you're using a later engine (96-up), it doesn't seem the crank reluctor is very easy to retrofit to the earlier engine.

The reluctor seems to be a slip fit not a press on fit, i've look at both V6 and V8 cranks that use it.
It is trapped between the crank timing gear and the balancer. The V8 vortec crank seems to have the same front diamentions as the SyTy crank. It seems like the most you might have to do is machine 0.060" or so off the back of the balancer, so it isn't located that much further front. I'm hoping the V8 vortec timing set takes care of this issue.

The plastic cover you use is the V8 vortec one and it bolts right on, after you remove the alignment pins from the front of the block

Re: anyone running 0411 PCM?

I am going to try using a crank trigger that'll be on the front of the motor, balancer hub will be machined to keep the belt alignment without having to space all of the accessories forward. That setup should give me 3x pulses I need for the 0411 PCM. I am planning on making an adapter harness that will plug into syty harness and into the 0411 PCM, so that I can go back easily if needed. Hopefully RPM will ship my crank trigger this week so I can get this up and running, my truck needs a tune pretty bad

Looks like I was correct in my assumption: This is still in the "I think this will work" stages. You haven't actually accomplished retrofitting the crank reluctor to the earlier engine, yet.

But I didn't think of the V8 timing cover. It seems like that might work.

Dave, Dave, Dave...
-Never assume...

Reluctor slides onto the crank easily and is actually snug with key in place. Harmonic balancer will fit in the recess and press the reluctor against the lower crank sprocket

V8 cover works. The newer plastic covers don't have the second set down holes and you have to get longer 1/4-20 bolts since the plastic is thicker than the stock metal cover.

Note pins built into new cover for alignment, so metal pins on old block have to come out. (notice one is diamond shaped)

FWIW, http://www.eficonnection.com made the harness for the truck that http://www.gomcracing.com/ did.

He sent me a pic of it, but it is in the work PC.

Hmmmmm.....

This gives me an idea for the DIS setup.... All we'd need is the v8 cover and a custom-cut 7-notch reluctor....

Solves all the potential balancer and mounting bracket issues.

Re: anyone running 0411 PCM?

Got to thinking about this...

Do the late 4.3s have different acc brackets to deal with the spacing of the balancer being forward more, or do they have a shorter balancer? Or different crank pulley?

I didn't really compare or even think about this when doing my swap. I used a Sy balancers/stock crank pulley and did not have any alignment issues.

The more I think about it I am not 100% sure if I used the newer 4.3 balancer or not.

Here is the alignment without any lathe work on the balancer. Everything was reassembled without putting the timing cover on. I guess you could get away without taking the 0.0625" off.
