Re: Anyone see this gauge yet?

is there any way to adapt something like this to work on our trucks? probably a long shot but it never hurts to dream, right? ;)

I e-mailed them asking if they plan on doing anything for the OBDI, as well as sent them a link to this thread. I'm hoping maybe someone from their company will pop in here and reply with a answer.

I see they offer alot of different options, like tranny temp, intake temp, knock, boost (if applied..) ect..

Re: Anyone see this gauge yet?

yea that would be great...if you had 3 on the pillar you could monitor/record 6 parameters. that would be killer

Yeah, and looking over what things they can offer looks like it would really help out *if* we can get all of it to work with our trucks.

i wonder why the oil pressure would be limited only to some V8 engines...

Re: Anyone see this gauge yet?

Here's the thing. If I were to make these, I'd have a hard time recovering my costs if I made a specific Sy/Ty version only. Therefore, I need to determine if the same hardware will also talk to say a LT1 Impala SS, or Z28, etc. I think they are the same, but it would be nice to have verification. I'd also like to know how much crossover there is in parameter i.d.'s between models. For example, is knock retard acquired using the same PID in a Typhoon as an LT1 Trans Am. The more commonality the more practical the gauge from a manufacturer's standpoint.

The UART interface for the SyTy is pretty simple, and I have the parameters id's, I just need to know more about the GM counterparts from this era.

There used to be plenty of folks on this forum that would know this, I don't know if they still lurk here or not.

Thanks.

Re: Anyone see this gauge yet?

Thanks for the reply Todd. I didnt know we had someone from that company on here already.

I'm sure we'll get some more people in here in a day or so to answer the questions you have that way you maybe be able to help us in the future.

I have a 95 Impala SS (ODB1) you can use as a test mule if needed and I live around the corner from you.

ummm, todd also made the ultimate chip.. we have had a similar thread discussing this recently..

Wheres it at, I couldnt dig up anything when I tryed to search for this gauge. (I also PMed Mike seeing if maybe we needed to move this or at least make it a sticky..?)

why would it be made a stickey?
its a gauge made for OBD II cars/trucks.. not sytys..

Re: Anyone see this gauge yet?

You would be basically be able to display anything that is on a Datamster for parameters.

I have actually been thinking about looking into making a LCD screen for my truck for a few important parameters. Maybe a winter project this year or next. OBDI cars are a lot more difficult to make these for (interms of capatibility with other GM vehicle) because they don't have a set format for an ALDL datastream parameters. ODBII is standardized.

If it would make things easier/more profitable for you guys, the SyTy ECM is the same one used in some Camaros, Sunbirds, and some other things. I'm sure someone knows excatly what else they were used in

Sounds like a digital gauge to display just knock retard in degrees would be easy to isolate from all those options . I have an led setup for that currently but digital numbers would be much better . Can it be done, since that area seems to have been covered already ??

Re: Anyone see this gauge yet?

If your grabbing it from the ALDL you will need mosty of the circuitry to decipher the bit stream anyways. His other product probably has most of the foundation for the hardware .

IMO The easiest way hardware wise for someone starting from scratch would be to rewrite some of the source code in the chip to spit out the KR degree on a unsed ECM output pin and have some simple circuitry to decode that and output out a number. However if you want to sell something like that you would need to figure out an easy way to connect to teh ecm and reprogam every chip to have the ECM work like that...

Re: Anyone see this gauge yet?

Thats only assuming you dont tap into the ALDL connector right Dave?

I just posted this as a thought, I know alot of us have talked about wishing we could see just how much knock we're getting. And not have to good off of a single light that doesnt tell of how much knock.

I liked the idea of also being able to see intake temps, knock, boost, and timing, just those things into one gauge could probably do away with 2 gauges for me as well as everyone else.

Wish I could give up my truck as a test mule for this if the company was closer. I would be more then willing to do that to help us out in this way.

Re: Anyone see this gauge yet?

I am hooked directly to the stock prom using a 4049u hex buffer/converter chip wired to a led . What I was originally looking for was to wire another "X" chip with "X" code on it into my circuit to convert the low voltage from the above setup to a digital reading from a preset table of "X" voltage = "X" degrees .(easiest way I could think to explain )
I dont write code so thats out of my hands . I like the direct readout of the obd2 gauge mentioned in this thread , but I dont see anyone making way for the obd1 anytime soon .
Could my hairbrained idea work or am I talking about stuff I dont know about again ?
