I think it would be a good idea to put all the SyTy's that go on Autotrader into the Sportmachines database.A lot of the ads have the VIN and a picture, might as well record their existance for future reference.

Just list the owner as "unknown" I guess? What do you guys think? Opie?

Sigo you busy?

Jimmy,

That's a great idea. Feel free to enter any trucks that you see on web sites for sale and that you have the VIN for. It's exactly why the online database is there.

Lately, I've been entering the information for any truck that's showing up on e-bay.

Thanks.

Up to 750 trucks and adding more everyday ...

Thanks for helping with this guys. This will help future owners track things about their trucks.

Keeping adding those trucks that you find. If the for sale area lists what city/state it is, just put that information in the Misc area of the transaction.

Jimmy,

When you enter the trucks, please do not put the date or mileage in the "Misc" field on the New Truck page. The Truck page is for information that stays static.

The date and mileage go in the Transaction page.

So, for most of the trucks that you enter, there won't be anything in the Misc field when entering the trucks information.

But there will be stuff in the Misc field on the transaction page. Enter things like State or location (if known), etc on the transaction page.

Thanks so much for helping out.

Oh, also, the Production Number is not the last 4 of the VIN. Some people have received a certificate from PAS listing a different 4 digit number that is called the production number. I've since learned that this is actually the Engine Sequence number, before the engine was installed in the truck.

Truckless. For now.

so is this number visible anywhere without removing a lot of parts to see it? I'd like to see how it corresponds with the last four digits of the vin. :) after all these years, we can finally learn what our true production number is on our Ty's. :)

It's NOT the production number though. That's the thing. It's just the Engine Sequence.

I don't know if this number is anywhere on the truck.

Think of it this way. GM would make up complete engines (actually complete drivetrains). These would get sent over to PAS. Then GM would make a truck chassis and send it over to PAS. The Engine had an Engine Sequence number associated with it. The truck chassis and body had a VIN associated with it. PAS put the two together and you have a whole truck.

I don't know if this is how it actually happened, but it makes sense from what I've seen.

So it seems, our trucks really don't have a "production" number so to speak. It more of a build date sort of thing. It seems then,(for example) that it is more accurate to say, "My truck was built on October 25, 1991" instead of saying, "My truck is number 2482," according to the PAS sticker. (although I don't know the build date of my truck cause it the sticker was removed or painted over or something.)

It would still be interesting to see the trucks lined up by VIN number at Nat's. See what kind of color order it produced. See if there's any sort of order/organization by VIN.

Thanks for the info though. :)

Well, I can answer some of these questions.

The VIN's were mostly done in calendar order. From what I understand, PAS would get a truckload of trucks with essentially sequential VIN's. These trucks would get offloaded into PAS's parking lot. Now, when they went to build a truck, they went out into the parking lot and grabbed a truck. So, they may have built 1544 before 1543, but the whole lot of trucks around that number were probably built within a couple days of each other, if not on the same day. Thus the VIN should be used as the sequential truck number.

As for colors, it does not appear that the colors were delivered in lots. It looks as though the colors were essentially random.

cool. that makes sense. so basically, we can use the VIN as a reference for when the truck was built. it's still okay to say, i have truck 2482 of 2500. but to call it "the production number" is not correct. The last 4 digits are essentially just an ID number, in reference to the day it was built, not the order in which it was built, which is close enough for me.

Exactly. We have records of what days each truck was built. We do not have records of whether it was the 2nd or 8th truck completed that day.
