Getting ready to work on the front end of my truck to fix some problems. The truck wanders back and forth like you are stuck in a rut, I occasionally hear a pop when turning and going over a bump at the same time, and the inside of the tires are wearing pretty bad. So I’m thinking I should get the PST polygraphite front end kit, Moog idler arm, and torsion bar mounts from Pep Boys. These parts will take care of all 3 problems, right? Is there anything else I need to do while I’m at it? Can you get Moog parts at Napa/Autozone/Pep Boys? Also I cant find the size of the syclone sway bar, but I found that a typhoon sway bar is 1.26”, is the syclone the same? Any help/advice is appreciated, especially from anyone who had done this recently.

I hate to bump my own thread, but I need to start buying parts and would really appreciate input from anyone that has had any of these problems, like what you did to fix it and if you would do anything differently, before I buy anything.

Get Moog ball joints, idler arm, pitman arm, tie rod ends, poly control arm bushes or even better a tubular coilover kit, poly sway bar bushes, correct toe in and camber and caster settings. If you are running anything wider than stock tires, you may still have a slight bit of play since our trucks don't use a rack and pinion.

Btw, I have my truck set up for autox and roadcourse.

i just got done replacing the ball joints and axle on the driver side of my syclone today,i was having real bad issues with it pulling and the front end swayed side to side around corners at highway speeds.i also have a clunk while backing up with the tire turned. it seemd to have fixed the problem for the driver side,but now the clunk is in the pass. side. i noticed when i had the spindle out. if you turned the axle as if the wheels were cut. it would bind up big time on me. its alot better on the road now. after i do the pass side ball joints. i will be relplacing the a-arm bushings. and that should fox the whole problem.

I placed my order with PST today, I got the kit above for $239, the idler arm for $40, and the 2 inner tie rod ends for $60. The only thing they didn't have was the pitman arm.

I was going to buy everything not in the kit from Mike Hood, but i figured with the fire he's probably pretty busy right now.So, I call autozone and ask if they sell Moog parts, "No, but NAPA does." So, I call NAPA and ask if they sell Moog parts, "Some of our stuff might be Moog."

So, where do you get Moog parts?

Napa should have the moog parts.Good luck getting the driver side pit arm done.I gave up trying to take it off and replaced the pass side only.

steering box and steering shaft will also need to be replaced if you want to get rid of as much play as possible.

most "quality" parts stores will have moog, and i definatly like their products. not only is it lifetime warranty but they are unsurpassed in quality. from a technician's stand point i would use nothing else.

The pitman arm is usually sold as a "crash only" type part. They play over there is not from the pitman arm. It is from the steering box as Waller mentioned. There is an over center bearing preload bolt on top of the steering box. You can tighten it up ever so slightly to take some of the slop out of the steering. Use an allen T wrench and put it on the bolt and take a wrench and break the nut loose. Take it Like a 1/4 turn at a time, hold the bolt with the T handle allen wrench and tighten the nut and then check for slop. Don't make it so tight the steering won't return itself to center. This "tightening" is taking into account worn parts. This isn't a permanent fix as over time, the steering will loosen up again. This will get you by until you replace the steering box if you go that route.
When you get it aligned, make sure they use Syclone/Typhoon specific alignment specs. If you go to like Sears, Midas or CarX, they will use S-10 specs and f**k up your tires. Find a place that does suspension work only and they will have the right equipment.

None of the alignment shop I know have Syclone/typhoon as a modle on their alignment machine and they can't enter a spec manually.

What alignment machine have the syty spec?

where can we find these specs? i know i seen them before somewhere,but im having a brain fart at the moment

every alignment machine ive ever seen can have custom specs entered. they are lying if they say they cant..
