Bent rod

Re: Bent rod

Holy Crap!! I pulled the pan off and the first thing I noticed was this:

And this 12 point rod bolt was on this:

It looks to me like they put stock pistons on Eagle rods. Who would do such a thing?

I can see where the bottom end has been balanced:

But I found this on the big end of the crank near the snout/front. It kind of looks like there had been a weight put into the crank here that mabey fell out. But I didn't find a weight inside of the motor so mabey this was where they took weight out.

For that piston slap noise I had written about in the past. I remember reading something about rod bushings going bad on Eagle rods but now I can't find anything on that subject when I search. Anyone have any pointers there.

Re: Bent rod

The top of pistons pic is back from when it ate a head gasket. It did take on water in that cylinder back then. That was quite some time ago.

I don't know what these pistons are then. They don't look like the pics I saw of JE's or SRP's. I'll look at them a little more closely to try and figure out what they are. To me they looked identical to what I have seen of stock ones as far as what they look like on top. I'm sure I'll know more when I pull them out.

The motor still has 2 bolt mains. I can also see where someone spot welded the oil pump pick up tube to the oil pump. Makes me think who ever put this together had a slight clue.

I plan to take everything to good machine shop and have them look things over. If that truly is a weight missing from the crank, like mabey it fell out, that would explain everything. But I also think I would have found that in the motor already.

I'll report back with the findings.

Re: Bent rod

Thank you. I just found his post on the subject that led me to my question.

EDIT: I can't find any identifying marks on these pistons anywhere. The only thing I have found is that they are .030 overbore. Mabey the machine shop will recognize the make on them. I know they are circa 2003 or earlier. The motor was put in in late 03.
