best way to keep motor cool

When i drive in the summer i use my A/C most of the time. The issue is that the motor gets so hot that it doesnt get that cold until i get on the parkway. It seems that i need to get the motor area more cooler. Can the stock fan be bad or should i just add another fan on the radiator to reduce the heat. Not only do i want to do this for the a/c issue but just to keep the motor as cool as possible.

Thanks

Re: best way to keep motor cool

stock mechanical fan should handle it.. but replacing it with a couple of electrical ones controlled by temp should do a better job.

the engine compartment is just too cramped to cool easily.

I replaced the thermostatic clutch on mine a few years back with a heavy duty unit, made a definite improvement. The old one was shot.

If your fan clutch is OK, then upgrade the fan blade to a 2001 GMC Safari ( it is a 11 bladed fan) and fits perfect, works great too.

You stated you changed it out and went with the electric fans. Why did you change? DO you still have the safari fan laying around?

I went to a air/air intercooler and needed more room. I dont have the fan anymore, you can pick one up from the dealer, thats where I got mine part number is #15976889.

I found this but its just the blade. I dont think its that bad of a price but to be honest i might just want to switch out the enitre fan with a new clutch. Anyone have one for sale or recommend a online company that will offer good prices. I have seen about 119.00 so far..

thanks

If you want, just buy a new fan clutch and the 2001 Safari fan blade. The only one that I have never had a problem with was the stock fan clutch from GM.

are you talking about your ac air temp is too high from being heat soaked or just engine temps in general? I got some tips for the ac.

What is the difference? isnt when your a/c gets heat soak is becasue the temp under the hood is to hot?

Take out the inner fenders, that will help too. But it might make a mess under the hood. Its cheap though..

I say junk the clutch fan and get a good dual electric setup. Pick up some performance and better cooling at the same time. And when I say good dual electric fan it doesnt have to be some $500 aftermarket setup. If you have a u-pull-it junkyard around like I do, you can get dual electric fans for like $40 bucks. I know some late model Chryslers have a nice size set, so do late model Chevy Malibus.

I think I have a safari fan and very lightly used clutch hub. I went to electric to free up some room. If you need it make an offer.

I wish i had those pull it yards but i dont. But...if i had the make and model of the car or truck the part comes off from i can make some phone calls to the junkyards and ask if they have them.

Before i say anthing i would like to know how can i tell if my clutch is bad. I was told to roll up a newspaper and easy try to stop the fan if it stops thats an indication the clutch is bad if it doesnt and it basically weats up the newspaper then its working. I know this doesnt sound to correct but what other way can i test the fan clutch.
