Boost launched the 20g w/ stock converter....

....And i was impressed  It was the first (and probably last) time I tried boost launching it since I put it in, I always read that it was damn near impossble to build any boost w/ a stock stall, and 20g w/ 14cm^ housing. Well I built up to 7lbs of boost before I had to let off. I only launched at 5lbs its just around 7lbs. the truck started going sideways at the light the rear tires were spinning so fast. I dont understand why everyone else was having problems building boost on the line w/ a stock tc?? :dunno:

I have a GT35R on a stock converter and I can barely pull 4lbs off the line.... and my truck doesn't quite start spinning them at that point (like those LS1 discs  ) ... it will get plenty sideways on the launch though

Good work man, nice to hear we have another NE truck up and running good

A bunch of the secret is good breaks. The breaks have to hold while boost builds. I have stock TC and with by rear breaks adjusted right, I can build 7 Lbs. but I lauch at 5 because there is a mark at 5 that is easy to see. Most of the time things get to be real quick at launch and the lights.

I just love these trucks!!!

My 2 cents.

I also have a 14 cm^2 20g and can't build boost above ~1-2 lbs off of the line with a factory stall. Maybe it's in the tune. I run my ultimate 50# on T115, how about you?

I could make 10 pounds plus. The issue is most likely brakes.

You hit the nail on the head... most of it is how the WG is set up, and the tune.

Also depends on *which* stock converter you have... GM had a svc campaign that replaced Sy converters with a lower stall unit.

A free-flowing intake and exhaust helps a bunch, too.

I did rebuild the drums a while ago with larger pads, and cylinders, yet they still spin but I wasnt making the power that I am now. I have an ultimate 50lb on setting T1F4. I still have a lot of little things to do, and Im trying to learn to tune the truck myself so ill be ready for code 59 in the future, the ext wg helps as well as free flowing intake and exhaust (like stated above). I plan on doing the LS1 upgrade in the rear soon, but I also really would like to get the tranny built before it blows up. I was very happy!!

I have an intake along with 3" exhaust. I also have a delta gate on the crossover.

My truck doesn't push through the brakes, it just never builds more than a couple of pounds when stalling the converter.

Ready to join the blown tranny club eh  ? ... mine lasted 1000 miles almost exactly before I blew it. If you're going to build one, these guys ( www.700raptor.com ) have some great stuff to use... has stood up to my 530 ft lbs for the last 1000 miles quite nicely. I'm running their input and output shafts, snapped the one in my previous race build

hmmmmm.....idk, I was really suprised the Ty did that.

maybe its about to blow up :( I hear motors have the habit of doing that right before they go

I had an RPM race build which came to me with some 1500 miles on it... something got messed up with the pressure control for the 1 - 2 shift, and the first time I took the truck for a good boosted launch (5psi, held it in first until 5k rpm) it snapped the output shaft when I nudged it to second. Then jammed it forward and crushed the input bearings and damaged a planetary

5-7 lbs of boost is not much as compared to stock. With 5-7 lbs of boost the 20g-14 cm will 60' slower that a stock turbo w/15 psi or even 10 psi.
With the stock turbo I could build as much as 20 psi(or more) w/a 2100 stock stall converter.
I have a 12 cm turbine housing now, on a 20 G turbo & can build as much boost as I need, still not quite as good as the stock turbo, or my previous turbo TDO6H20G w/stock turbine 8 cm housing machined to fit "H" wheel.
Forgot to ask, what does your torque converter stall to?

:dunno: all I know is even off the line it feels like its got more power than the stock turbo, although I wouldnt doubt having a slower 60ft. but it hauls pretty well up top

Besides launching the truck over 5lbs is kinda overkill considering the tires spin for a little bit. and it makes my tranny not happy :(

With 5 lbs of boost & your spinning your tires?
What brake mods have you done, Stock? & what does your torque converter stall to? 2500 RPM?
Thanks
