Burning oil like crazy

Why is my typhoon burning oil like mad? I must go through a quart a tank full of fuel! Plugs look good, new turbo, no oil leaks. I need to do a compression test. I forgot exaclty how to figure out if the oil consumption problem is due to bad rings or valves. I think you can do a compression test, then squirt 10cc's of oil into the cylinder and look for a huge rise in compression to test the rings....vavles...i forgot? leak down test?

Anyway, looking for ideas of how to chase my oil consumption problem,

Thank guyz!

Re: Burning oil like crazy

That sounds right for the compression test. When you do the leakdown, the problem will diiffer depending on where you hear the air escaping.

Leak Down testing

There are three major leak paths where cylinder pressure can escape: past the rings, the intake valve, or the exhaust valve. We'll ignore the head gasket for now. With each of these three leak sources, it's easy to tell where the leakage is originating with some sleuthing. If you can hear a hissing sound coming from the valve cover breather hole or from the dipstick tube, then the air is escaping past the rings. If you prop open the throttle blades and hear that same hissing sound, then the pressure is leaking past the intake valve. If the air is escaping past the exhaust valve, you will probably be able to hear the air even as far back as the tailpipe.

rings or valve stem seals. does it smoke and when exactly? hot or cold startups or all the time?

Could be an intake manifold gasket leak... sucking oil into an intake runner.... but you should sure see one plug, or more, that would indicate this.

If the plugs look ok, what would be another sign of this problem, and if it is sucking in under vacuum, what is it doing under boost?
