Start at #1, follow it all the way to the end. Lube all seals with transgel or vasoline or transmission fluid. Dexron III is the fluid to use in this case. Clean EVERYTHING. You'll need the impact and a gloved hand to get the pinion nut off. Retorque at 90 pounds. Case half bolts are 15mm. Torque all bolts that go into the aluminum case to 35 foot pounds. Use a thin bead of black rtv on all case sealing surfaces. This is an easy case. There are over 100 pictures. If you still don't understand this case after have over 100 step by step pics, you need to take it to have it professionally serviced.
This case uses a one blue link back chain.
Again, clean the gunk from the output shaft, planetary, bearing in the output shaft, lube hole in the output shaft, lube holes in the input shaft if reusing the old one, and get ALL of the crud out of the ring gear that the output shaft is snap ringed to. Failure to remove this stuff WILL result in bearing or planetary failure due to lube starvation and friction (like 320 grit sand paper on all surfaces).
When you work the case halves apart, start with a thin screwdriver and just tap it with a hammer. Work your way around a little at a time till it's apart.
When you get the planetary out, grab each pinion and force it in and out. If it moves, you can restake the pinion shafts. If restaking doesn't set it, replace the planetary. Make sure you use the 4 pinion style. I've seen reference to 3 pinion setups. If you get one do NOT use it. The picture unit is a 32 spline output shaft unit.

Items needed.
1 3/16 socket. 15 mm socket. Impact wrench. Snap ring pliers. Black RTV. Block of 2x4 for driving seals. Vasoline or Transgel. 3 or 4 hours of time. Lots of carburetor cleaner or a parts washer and brushes.

Re: BW4472 rebuild

Is that input shaft the one you sell for the 80E conversion? Are people breaking the stock ones?

Re: BW4472 rebuild

That comparison pic shows the 32 spline vs the stock 27 spline. The main issue was that guys wanted to be able to buy a 4x4 4L80e, put a shift kit in it and bolt it in with the 80e kit. This shaft is a very strong heat treated alloy set up to let them do that. The other issue is that Berville Hillis broke two of the 27 spline output shafts. He is the only person to date to break a 27 spline 80e output shaft and he only runs 11s. 8s have been accomplished on the 27 spline setup so its something specific to what Berville is doing. I had planned on doing this as the need arose but didn't think it would be until guys got into the low 8s. If you look really close, you will see that the input shaft is longer also. This is because the 80e 4x4 shaft is shorter. So, no, you won't be breaking the input shaft of the transfer case. You will break the output shaft of your 700 at the lube holes before you do that.

Re: BW4472 rebuild

You should re-post this in the Tech Articles? Maybe they will Vault it. Its nice to have everything there for everyone to see. I can really appreciate you doing this. Just popped mine open yesturday and everything still looks new from when I built it 3 years ago.

A guy called Wade has all the pics. I may have them as well. I'll look.

It's an easy job really.
