Cam Bolt size

Ok, I searched in forum, but could't find anything. I'm about to replace the cam and timing set, to have all parts needed for this before I start removing the timing gear, question: What kind of cam bolts to order, M8 or 5/16" - 18?

Most of the bolts that screw into the cast iron parts of the engine are still SAE and are not metric. The only exception I can think of are the bell housing to block bolts. I guess the GM cast iron engines were designed before metric fasteners were specified.
