Cams

I'd like to get everyones opinion on this topic. I've tried searching for info on cams a little more aggressive then the 422 and not a whole lot comes up.

Heres a break down of the build so you guys can help me a little.

-30 over block
-Stock crank(sorry I dont have $2500 to spare.

)
-Eagle rods
-JE pistons
-P&P Vortec heads with 1.5 oem shaft mount rockers. (No idea on flow numbers yet as I'm waiting for the heads to show up but will find out after the first of the year. Target cfm is around 235/185)
-No idea on springs yet either, depending on cam.
-Edelbrock 2114 intake converted with a 75mm tb.
-More then likely 75 or 84lb injectors. (probably gonna go with a boost pump and my 255 pump)
-Stock ported exhaust manifolds(unless I get a good amount back on taxes

)
-T-76 GTQ
-2800 stall, that really stalls at 3k. (I'm going to stick with this and see how it works when the build's done. If I need more stall then I'll get it. But I dont want to get a 3500 and realize I could have used a 3k.

Custom A2A. (26x12x3 core with 3" piping)
Meth injection.

In the future I'll be adding electronic boost controler, and a MSD Dig 6.

Thats the build in a nutshell. I know there are a bunch that dont like to talk about their build. And I'm not asking you to tell me your build spec's. I'm asking from your help in dealing with faster trucks (I'm shooting for mid 10's with 11.0's on the street) that have crazy top end power, what cam would work the best?

Last but not least. What rpm do you think that build is good for? Because I know that'll be asked in ref to the cam question. I'm not looking to spin the motor like the Hoovers did past 8k. I'm looking for around 5500-6k. Will the above work, if not. What should I change now assuming its not the block or crank. (the big money items.)

415 is actually a tad milder than the 422 (.010 less ex lift and .005 less duration @ .050 for int and ex). But like Mike said, a custom grind is probably gonna be the way to go. Tim, try talking to Waller about some of his custom grinds. I know he's done some testing and has some really good grind details.

Re: Cams

Yeah sorry. I ment to add 4 bolting the block as well. ;)

I'd like some spec's on some cams. Compare them to the 422 if you can..

Re: Cams

Auto Addictions was running a 422 grind, RPM A2A intercooler, 4L80 Trans, Vortecs, with a BIG STUFF 3, with T72 or 74 and has gone 10.80's or faster

My truck had custom cam grind with Vortecs, Stock Intake ported and matched, Heads flowed 290 cfm, JE pistons, hel Fire rings, Splayed, Stock Crank (now Cryo Treated), GT35R turbo, 3" Exhaust, Custom headers, Custom Front Mount A2A intercooler with Big Stuff 3 on 18lbs of boost pump gas ran 11.30's (never ran truck over 18lbs of boost)

Really just need to discuss with whoever you are going with to Tune the truck for the advise.

Ralph

P.S. My truck ran out of cam @ 5100 on Engine Dyno /// with new Cam Spec and change in valve train we should be good to 5700-5900 RPM. Also that big turbo is gonna have LAG with a 2800 stall, i think Frank has 3500 and he is getting 1.5 60's but you are gonna not get the turbo to spool with that low of an RPM.

Re: Cams

Ralph is right!! My converter is stalling at 3400 and it could use a bit more. However i can drive on the highway at 2000 rpm at 75 mph with the converter locked up. Your wasting alot of turbo with a T76 and only 2800k stall. The truck would go faster with smaller turbo.
I can also tell you that my 72 didnt make any power untill i cranked the boost up to 24+ pounds of boost. I run 30 to put down 10sec Numbers. You will need a great tune to keep a stock block together at that level and a oversized fuel system is a must.

Frank what are you running for a fuel system?

I think he has an Aeromotive A1000 with -8 or -10 To his billet fuel rails.

I have Twin 255 Liters in the tank (old ATR Set-up) with -8AN to the billet Fuel Rails.

Re: Cams

I have the 422 with a 76 and a 3200 stall and have no problem spooling it. A lot depends on the tune. Also I have run 6.80 in the 1/8 at 106 so it should be in the 10's at only 21-22psi. I need to upgrade the feul system though I only have one walbro 255 and a meth kit. LOL
