Chicago Area SYTY Minds

My truck is getting close to running again. I had the engine rebuilt, new trans installed, and now I am getting things back together. Unfortunately Im not a master mechanic and could use some help getting things back together.

I have Tunerpro RT, and Datamaster loaded on my laptop but cannot figure it out.
My truck is 95% put back together but could use help getting hood, fenders, exhaust, ect back in place. The shop that did the engine gave me the truck and a giant box full of parts/bolts/brackets and I spent 3 months sorting that out.
My instrument cluster has not been working and I need help why.
Really I just need someone with experience to help me finish the truck. If you could help me wrench a little bit and get my computer going while teaching me how to use it.

I would pay someone hourly or we could work something out.

I'm not that far away from Chicago... Let me know if your interested in bringing it down to finish it when the weather breaks.

your best bet is probably head down to scotts with it, he's a great guy and knows his stuff and has turned out some KILLER trucks and cars. im the farhtest thing from a tuner and when my turd comes outta storage im heading there. i love to turn wrenchs just not bright enough to understand tuning. who did the motor work by the way ?? sounds like a story from somewhere west of chicago.

Looks like you get the same help I got from here :)

main problem is there arent alot of guys around this area and people have full time jobs , families and houses that need attending to and thier sy/tys arent their top priority (let alone someone elses not running basket case). i myself would love to help a guy out when i can, but this one screams of many missing nuts bolts pieces brackets and god knows what else. driving back and forth cause somethings missing. i offered up my help and my garage on several instances but i think this one is better left to someone who can work on it full time and has access to all the spare parts that may be needed.

I had Built-Rite motors in Addison do the engine work. When the motor was done It joined the truck at an unnamed shop that the owner was working on it on the side. It was taking too long (1 1/2) years to get anything done and somehow the Trans cooler lines broke out of the Trans shell. I stopped in one day to see the broken tranny and we decided to bring the truck back to my house so I can figure out what to do with it. I got the truck, and 80% of the parts in boxes. I have spent 6 months getting it 95% done now and just need some extra help.

I do not want to take it anywhere else and really want to learn as I am working.

Offtopic but I am shopping for the best Syclone repair manuals that can help a newbie like me. Any ideas?

Thanks for the replies!

NOTHING compares to the factory service manuals. Don't even waste your money on the others.:2cents:

transdamn...i would be willing to help you with this. since i am the previous owner and have had this truck apart to its basic level i know where every part goes.:D

that sucks about the tranny, that was a stought tranny that always shifted perfect:rant:

i also read about the compression # on one of your other threads, i had no idea it had gotten that bad, but i do agree with you that it still pulled like a mack truck at the end.

i want to see my old truck back on the road, and back in action!! also i want to make amends for some bad blood between us, if this sounds like something your interested in drop me an e-mail at syclone0569@yahoo.com (lol never changed it) as my pm box is suddenly 200% full:oops:

Well said Clint, let him help ya, he knows his shit around these trucks. He was the first to help me out at a wrech session he hosted up in WI. It was worth the trip. I'd be game to come to see what I could help with too, but I too am still learing. Heated carhole would be preferred...ya I'm getting old, so what.

No worries. The truck looks great! I drove it around the block last weekend for the first time since I bought it in 2009. It been a long road. The engine rebuilder took forever, the speed shop took a year and half to put engine in and ruin the good transmission. It has lots of new parts and the whole frame was repainted last summer. it has new fenders too.

If I could do it all over i would have dropped the $10k on an Ls1 4l80E conversion and been happy. Oh well....... Off to the garage to fuss a little more with datamaster and see if I can hook it up the right way.
