Climbing temp

Hi guys

My new completely rebuilt stock engine has thr following issue.

You drive around, and engine temp is ok, but you go on the highway and put a little gas on it and the temp starts climbing like you see on the pictures. It does not get to red in the OEM gauge, only to 3/4 and it gets a little over 180 in the pillar gauge.

The engine is fully rebuilt. It has a new fuel pump, but the injectors are the originals. The cooling system is also the original but it has been cleaned because it had a ton of dirt.

It's not a blown head gasket because the engine long block is newly rebuilt

Is it lacking fuel?

Factory temp gauges are not accurate at all.

I am thinking that the stock thermostat is a 180 degree. And your coolant will not circulate through the entire system until the engine temp rises to that level. So if you do have a 180 deg. thermostat I believe that is what you should be seeing on the aftermarket gauge.

Watch for the temp to keep rising up to over 200 like 220+. Then it is time to see what is going on.

It probably has a 195 thermostat in it...
Edit... I didn't read the first post correctly. Dave is right. I would think the cluster is wrong or your sensor is malfunctioning.

180 F on a correctly functioning stock gauge is about 3/8 scale. Over 1/4, but not to 1/2. If your pillar gauge is indicating 180, that is probably what it is running at. There's something wrong with your stock cluster.

Hey Dave got any ideas on how he could test his sensor? Isn't it the one in the driver's side head?

Every SyTy that I had read to different places on the stock gauge. But they were all below 1/2 scale. I installed an aftermarket gauge when I wanted to know what the temp actually was. Since the op already has one installed then that truck should be good.
