Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone has experienced this before.I lowered the front end of my Ty to even it out with the back end after I installed the 2" lowering blocks. Cranked the torsion bars until the adjusters were near the bottom, with a few thread remaining. Truck sits nice and level. Cut the bump stops 3/4" or so. The truck drove nice for first few miles with no problems, but after a while, noticed the front end jarring/clunking every time I drive over sharp bumps, especially manhole covers. I looked to check on the bump stops and they have at least 1" clearance before hitting the control arm. A friend of mine had the same problem with a G-body Oldsmobile and found that even though the bump stop was cut, the clearance was not enough for the control arm to have full travel without bottoming out over bumps. And because the bump stop was cut where the ' V ' part was taken out completely, the impact of the control arm hitting the cut bump stop was causing a loud clunking noise. I think he tried the Prothane round lowered bump stops, but had the same problem. He figured that the ' V ' part of the bump stop was at least absorbing most of the impact, so he installed a new stock bump stop, uncut, and the noise and jarring was gone. But because the bump stop was now almost sitting on the control arm, the ride is bouncy, but no noise.
So, to make a long story short, has anyone experienced this dilemma? I read in previous posts that everyone was cutting their bump stops, but haven't heard anyone with the same problem I have. I bought new GM bump stops and I'll be installing them shortly.
Thanks!
