Coolent smell...

Hey Boys and Girls.. heres a mind stumper! I've been noticing a coolent smell coming into the cabin when I boost hard. Not only when I boost lauch, but everytime I get into higher boost. It gets to be stronger smell when i turn on the fan.. but even with the heat/ cool on or off you can notice the smell. I've been keeping an eye on the ground after I park the truck and no drips or anything... I've checked my coolent levels (both rad and IC) and it doesn't look lower. The heater core seems to be okay also... my carpet is dry to the touch. SO...I'm stumped, anyone else have this?

Thanks
Wilson

Pull the carpet up under the heater core. Usually when it has a small leak it will run down the firewall and under the carpet padding. The carpet will still feel dry but underneath there may be some coolant. Sounds like the heater core to me.

Here is my post from when I did mine almost two years ago. The "how to " link from sytyarchives is in there as well. To save yourself some grief, lengthen the hoses that go to the heater core so that the lines have more slack . That way, it won't start leaking again right after you replace it.

When I was running wire for the sound system in my Typhoon, I saw a small puddle of coolant under the carpet. Neer noticed a smell and then after I cleaned it all up , I never saw it again. Maybe it was a heater core before I bought it but just not cleaned up... Thats what I am hoping

Well.. good and bad.. I found where the smell is coming from and you all are right. I saw it streaming from the lower foot well vent. Thats the good thing.. now the bad.. I don't have time to fix it now!!! ARRG!
