Cutting out??

i dont really have much knowledge of turbo engines. sometimes when my typhoon hits the rev limiter it cuts out really bad and it will not build boost for a couple minutes. It has even died on me a couple times and took a few minutes to refire. anyone delt with this problem or have any suggestions?

Re: Cutting out??

The rev limiter in the stock chip is 4800 rpm. The other thing you might be expereiencing is overboost cutoff (over 15 psi on the stock chip). You need to really address this problem and diagnose it before going WOT again. The factory engine is fragile and can easily be damaged from above conidition if not already done so.

Re: Cutting out??

how do i correct over boost if that is what it is??? i was told that these things can handle 20lbs of boost all day long on stock internals.

Re: Cutting out??

ok.....i wasnt sure. there is no one else around that has one of these and so i dont get much hands on teaching so i am new to all this.

Is the check engine light coming on? You can read the codes with a paperclip

That happen to me once and i almost sh*t in my pants. It seems that you just keep puching it to the limit, WOW more balls then me.

I'm assuming that your engine is stock becasue you didnt post any pictures yet but if so look at the wastegate in front of the turbo. It has vacuum lines on it make sure nothing came off. You computer will cut off fuel becasue it overboosted and it is a safety precaution plus the stock chip can only max out at 14.8 or 14.9. I wouldnt keep punching it and letting it do that more then once. Next time you might hear....BANG....then CLUNK...then cha cha and all these lights will come on on your dash and the truck wont start and you will be stuck where ever you are. Are you getting the idea???? :D

Do this first. If it is overboosting it usually because the ECM has no/poor control over the boost control. This is usually vacuum line, but could soleniod, stick wastegate, bad actuator. One of the first thing I recommned doing replacing all of you vacuum lines if you have done so, they are important to fueling and boost control of the motors.

With the right tune they can do 20psi with the wrong tune, they can't do 15 psi. A poor running engine is can very easily be damaged.

What part of Iowa are you in... there's a guy in Tipton I can send you to, if you're looking for someone to do some work on it.

Re: Cutting out??

ok....this is alot to grasp since i have never delt with tuning a car and dont know where to start. my dad owns his own mechanic shop and i am no stranger to working on cars so i will do the work myself (with a lil coaching from u guys :p). i have never delt with a boosted engine and thats why i dont know where to start with mods and diagnostics.
