Damn Ty...

Just Getting Started...
Figured I'd come on and share my the little adventure my Ty took me on today. Almost died on me on the way to work, which would have completely sucked. On the way to work, I took a detour to one of my project sites to do some last minute inspections before I got into the office this morning. All was going well, it got me from my house to the site. I did my thing and then hopped in and was on my way to work when it decides to crap out on me at an intersection leaving the jobsite. Mind you, this was at 6:15 this morning (pacific time), so there was no one to get mad at me for stalling in traffic. So I sit there and try to get it started again, but no luck. So I decide to let it roll back and back into a little side street. Luckily I caught a downslope and managed to let it coast in, if only it would let me go all the way into the parking lot, but no luck. So I push it the remainder of the way into this adjacent lot and people are just staring at me, not even offering to come over and help, so I was like "gee thanks a lot". So I park it and open up the hood, have a look and see nothing wrong. The SOB just won't start. So I pull out my phone to call the tow truck and I'm about to when I decide to give it one more go. Rat bastard started up just fine. So I'm sitting there thanking god and wondering why the hell it bothered to give me a scare. Drive out of the lot and began on my way to work. The whole time I'm driving I was praying it wouldn't die on me. No glitch the rest of the way. Got me to work and just took me out to lunch right now. Figured I'd be ok going to lunch since the spot I was headed was only a few blocks over. The fun part will be heading home. We'll see how that turns out. Come this weekend, it looks like it will be doing driveway duty...
That's my story...

Dang man, that sucks! The first thing I would check is in the wiring. Maybe you kicked something down by your feet while driving or perhaps the wiring from the ECM? Good luck

Re: Damn Ty...

With Fords that is a sign that the ignition module is on its way out. Do these trucks do the same thing when they begin to fail?

Re: Damn Ty...

My Sy would do that as well, very intermittent. Cruising along just fine, push on the gas and nothing. Fuel pressure was ok according to in-cab gauge. Coast to the shoulder crank it a couple of times, nothing. And then it would start.
And this is with a FAST dfi box. Tried a different ign. module, no change.

I did find that my main wiring harness from the FAST box was very close to the downpipe. I'm not sure if excessive heat on the wiring was causing some voltage problem, but it will be routed far away from heat this time around.

Re: Damn Ty...

Mine has done it a couple of times too and I think it is the wiring to the ECM. The last time it shut off on me, the boost gauge was pegged at 15 psi so I decided to leave the ignition on and wiggle some wires in the engine compartment to see if it would drop. Nothing, then I hit the passenger side dash with my hand and the gauge dropped back down to 0. I restarted the truck and it fired right up. Haven't had a chance to check the wiring but atleast I know how to get it started. Still paid $100 for towing the first time it did it. Good luck finding the problem.

Re: Damn Ty...

I'll be giving it the once over come saturday. Its been relatively good to me since I picked it up. I knew what I was getting into when I got it. I guess I can chalk this upcoming date with it to experience. Hopefully I can figure out what is going on...
