Datamaster Accuracy ?

Messing around with DM tonite and was trying out the 1/4 mile calculater. How accurate is this function? Specifically the 0-60 feature. Just curious. TIA.

I've found the DM 1/4 mile calculator to be pretty accurate. It's usually withing a tenth.

Not too sure about the 0-60 numbers, nothing to gauge them against.
Although I really wanna belive em...

I wondered this same thing, so before this past year's nationals, Waller and I went to the track and made some runs. I was honestly amazed at how close Datamaster is in it's calculations (within a tenth on every run and as close as .02 on some). As long as the sample rate is pretty fast, I would trust it. I wouldn't race for pinks based on that calculation, but it's pretty darn close.

Maybe that's how the 10.32 pass was made... :wink: (the start frame is supposed to be @ 10mph right? ).

I agree, it's really close. The shorter the length the closer. So I'd say 0-60 should be dead accurate... If you have the right diameter tires...

I did a compare of DM to my time slip and calculated all the split times. DM was always a little quicker at each split.

60 ft DM 0.060 quicker
1/8 DM 0.139 quicker
1/4 DM 0.171 quicker

I have a very fast Dell laptop and can get 10 samples per second. Other runs I have compared are similar

DM shows higher mph but remember the time slip is an ave through the speed trap and DM is the mph at 1320 ft.

I have the Nitto 275/17's on the front and 315's on the back so it is not the original tire dia (close though).

Wheel spin will make DM think you covered ground faster than you really did.

My experience is DM is always a bit optimistic compared to track times. Good for the ego until you hit the track.

Don't want to sound stupid, but how do I use the calculator??? I just got datamaster and when I try to use the 1/4 mile calc. I can't select it :x

DataMaster is only as good as the data the ECM collects. If your tire size throws the speed calibration off, all the related calculations will be off. However, it should be fairly consistent, and help you figure out if you're in the ballpark!
