Datamaster and Vista

Beavis

Still plays with trucks
I recently got a new laptop with Vista and downloaded the newest Datamaster, and after trying to set it up and authorize it, I got errors. I E mailed TTS and got a nice response from them as how to make it work. It was in a word document so I will copy and paste it here because after a nice search I couldn't find any answers. So here it is......

To install DataMaster on a PC running Vista:

Before running the setup program right click on it. Select Properties from the list and then click the Compatibility tab. From there, pick the default Windows XP SP2, click on the 'Apply' button and then click on the 'OK' button.

Now run the setup program to install the DataMaster program.

Registering DataMaster:

In order for the registration tab to work it must be clicked while using as Administrator user. Otherwise it returns a corrupt database error message (invalid signature).

Trial Runs:

In order to use the 20 free trial runs, you need to invoke the registration form while logged in as administrator. This will generate the initial registration database and allow the trial runs to activate. Otherwise it returns a corrupt database error message (invalid signature).

I also found that on the "Compatibility tab" at the bottom, that is where you check the "Administrator" box.

HTH any one who was woried about useing Vista. :2cents:

Vista = shit
Datamaster = "the shit"

Two non-compliant systems trying to work together.

I was going to upgrade last year, and it's a good thing I decided not to. I still haven't heard anything that makes Vista worth it. And it's been said SP1 for Vista slowed it down even more :roll:

XP SP2 for FTW!

Re: Datamaster and Vista

Once you do as instructed it works fine. Vista itself, however? Problems? Yes. Workarounds? Yes. PITA? Probably. If you have a choice stick with XP.

Curiously enough... I got DM to install and run on Ubuntu (Gutsy x64) via wine.
It dies like a dog when attempting to do serial operations (ie, actually logging something),
but I haven't really played with it much. Might be able to make it work...

Gonna try it with Crossover next to see how it goes. As it is, you can open and read files just fine. Seems fairly speedy, as well.

TunerPro also seems to operate, although I suspect it'll have issues with the serial interface too. I don't do a lot of datalogging with my desktop machine, so it's not really a big deal.

Plan D is to run it via an XP VM, but running it on Windows in Linux kinda takes the fun out of the whole exercise.
