datamaster

Just did my first log in over 3 years. I struggled to underatand the values and things to look for back when I did this with my syclone.

Decided that it's time to get some info on the typhoon, since I was toying around with a rousch mustang a week or so I got 2 loud pops like a .45 was going off. This happened when the truck was under extreme load. Pedal mashed. The truck picked up great.. Just had some top end break up and was wondering how to eliminate it. I backed the fuel pressure off a very small amount.. Helped but not completely.

I got the truck to communicate and was able to obtain a few things. I only put the log on "monitor" as I struggled before on creating a filepath and saving for future viewing.

So what I ended up seeing this time around was it pulled some spark retard. Similar case. Open road clear path to get into it. Seen it pull some.

I guess I better dig back into my paper work or get back to reading up on this. Some one told me if its pulling some timing there's problems. I am trying to eliminate it. This was only liting up in the blue color on the alert bar. ( I saw my syclone shoot right into the red and the graphs before looked like a seismograph reading and I was very discouraged)

Truck is basically stock asides from a cold air intake, fpr, borla exhaust.

Glad you are digging into it

Everybody here has been where you are, trying to read the hieroglyphics. It's confusing at first (especially without a wide band)but the main thing is that you now have a tool to see how your truck is running.

In order to determine what your trucks issues are,we are going to need some more info.Spark retard can be a million things.

I won't ask a million questions yet,but let's see the basics.

1 What plugs are you running? What are they gapped at?
2 What octane gas?
3 What did the boost max out at?
4 What were your IAT temps?
5 Do you run a Cat converter?
6 What's your static fuel pressure set at?

That's it for now.Are there any local guys from here close to you?

Good questions, Jimmy. There don't seem to be a lot of folks that want to help the new guys anymore.

I actually have more fun yanking people's chains, but I talked to this Pennsyltuckian, and he seemed like a good guy.

So this one time,I will help.:D

Re: datamaster

What rpm did it shift at? Any trouble codes? What was your knock count? Coolant temp? What is your idle rpms? What is your vacuum at idle?

Quickstop [UK]

Combating adversyty.
Re: datamaster

Messing around with fuel pressure is like taking a sledge hammer to a nut. It will mess everything else up.

Set 43 psi at idle with hose off. Leave it. Tune via the chip. Wideband is next. Or Turbotweak ($160 is CHEAP compared to Ostrich, fuel, your time).

Dr Mark, can we at least see what the symptoms are first? I understand your thinking.

Re: datamaster

Yes I was able to dust off the equipment and get everything to work the last way I remember doing it.

I have some NGK iridium ix plugs I put in. I also have a set of original copper plugs I am going to be putting in to see if any change. The iridium plugs are probably shit. I don't think you can even gap them and if you do you can crack the tip. I was always told to use the copper electrode core when in doubt. I just pulled some CR43TS off the shelf.

Usually I fill up on Sunoco 93.

I saw at least 11-12 psi on the boost target psi block ( quick glance ).

I believe my intake temps were 100-108 degrees if I am correct or if it sounds right. I know a log or file would speak volumes for me.

I do have the cat. still installed and I'm going to go over the fuel pressure tomorrow. I backed it off a tad, but i will re do it all because it is easy enough to do.

( shifting occurred under 4000 rpm, no codes at all, coolant temp read 180*?? I thought it was a bit high. I think it has a 160* stat. It pulls 14-15hg of vac at idle and its idling at 645-655 rpm. )

I appreciate you encouraging me to do this. I may not know much about it, or only know a small amount but hopefully I can learn some new stuff this time around.

Again, it doesn't hurt to ask.

I'm half lit,but pretty sure the stock plugs are 42's,not 43's.IMO the BEST plugs for these trucks are Autolite 23's. :dunno: Ran them for years on high boost and they held up.

Idle should be 900 rpms.

Shifts should be 4600-4800. Check your TV cable. Vacuum is low, should be like 18-20. I want boost levels, not the target. I know this is kinda a crash course, but you already know more than you did yesterday.

All your temps seem good,so we know that now.

Re: datamaster

Are you sure the shifts should be that high in the rpm range. I took a friend for a little ride and they said wow why does the truck redline @5-6k rpm but typically not see it.

I remember reading on sport machine truck info page on my truck # 413 and it said WOT shift is at 4100 rpm. I don't know if its true/false. I dont even know what the info even is PAS testing info. I Just haven't seen the truck climb that high in rpm..

Re: datamaster

So I decided to put new plugs in. Turned into a problem. More of like a ****ing headache.

The cr43 is not the plug. I put them in and truck was running real rough. I thought I had a wire crossed.

I just took the truck for a spin and could not get ANY power. I don't know what I did but I am putting the NGK plugs back in. The truck does not run right with the AC delco plugs I just put in.

Re: datamaster

:dunno: I'd keep the ngk iridiums anyway, I've used them in most of my other cars and they always perform as well or better than copper core

Re: datamaster

Sorry everyone. My fault about the last post. I had a wire completely off. Really feel like an idiot. ( big time) I got thrown through a loop twice today.

I just took the truck for a rip, after having it cool off and Almost.. Almost.. put the NGK back in. What happened was I forgot to put plug #1 on. And I could see it clear as day. The truck seemed to perform fine. I decided to put all new plugs in so I could read/identify the ones I pulled out. Plug #1 had some oil/build up on it as well as plug # 4.

I just ran a quick data log , which I was able to save.. Next step is to figure out how to put that file up or where to upload it so it can be viewed. I appreciate all the help.

Re: datamaster

I don't know what drop box is. I have photobucket I use 99% of the time. I take it that photo buckets does not support the file type?

Making a bit of progress. Little by little.

Just Google the file type and see where you can host it.

Having logs to look at will help.

Re: datamaster

OK so I got a minute today after fixing a line on the F350 that blew out yesterday... But what I was able to do was gap the plugs. I was reading a post early this morning and it dawned on me that I could be getting the spark "blown out". I gapped the plugs at .026 and tighten them up. They were actually pretty far out of range. Some as far as .040.. But after addressing this I was able to step completely into the pedal with no real break up. There is a small amount of stumble at low end but the top end difference is night and day. I guess my link to the datamastet is no good?

Re: datamaster

Sorry, my laptop died last week so haven't been able to tune or look at logs.

Few things...

1. Your voltage is way low.... I see 12.2 volts in one spot. Clean all the vehicle grounds (left front of intake manifold, right rear cylinder head, etc.). With the voltage that low I'd say alternator may have an issue. Getting the voltages up will help with a lot of running issues.

2. Intake temps are mighty high.... 169 degrees is just too damn hot. Check to see if your IC pump is working....coolant circulation should be pretty strong. Do the hot wire mod to keep the pump running all the time.

Hope this helps.

Re: datamaster

I appreciate you checking the log and taking some time to observe it. I was afraid it could have been a bunk link.

I will clean and check the grounds out like mentioned.

Where should my intake temps be at? The other day it was HOT out. I checked my pump before and tested everything. Seemed to be working. I even went through all the crazy stuff with the pinched hose so I know the system is working. Last time was curious about it I was having foam/froth and I ended up discovering the hose was pinched bad at the bottom restricting flow 90% or more. I since put on a Goodyear prefab 90 sweep piece which was a great solution. I could top the system off or. Check if its low?

Since I dialed in the plug gap there is a big change in performance. I was running these NGK iridum plugs which are set gap. Tightening them up really helped.

I think I saw 17-17.5 psi on the boost. Is that normal? Stock turbo.. I thought the trucks stock ran at 13-14 psi. 15 if your lucky? Also can some one explain the boost trgt. Value a little bit for me please?

I was looking at the log last night and trying to watch the o2 system and understand the rich/lean and see where the truck is . It was 2am so I ended up crashing. I'll look it over again later and they to see where I'm at.
