ECM options

A buddy of mine has a "91" syclone and is looking for options to replace or enhance the factory unit. We're located in Puerto Rico and these trucks are an oddity here. Any suggestions are welcomed.

Re: ECM options

There's a good bit that you can do with the factory ECM. If you want a turn-key chip, contact TurboTweak. If you desire to tune for yourself, look into Code59. Both are a cost-effective option. However, if you're looking for a much more powerful (and easier) tuning option, look into the Holley Dominator setup. It's a considerable financial investment, but may wind up being some of the best money spent on the the truck.

What's his build/desires? That may help narrow down the options.

Thanks for your reply. I will certainly follow up on your suggestions and let my friend know what's available for his truck.

Re: ECM options

The 411 is an option. But it will need to see a cam and crank signal. You can do that with a later model factory distributor and a later model reluctor wheel, crank sensor(all 96-2004 vortec 4.3)and a timing cover from a vortec sbc. You will also need to modify the harness for the injectors to work. Basically you have to ukld the injector harness. Then you can use any tuning software that will work on a 411. Some 411's run coil on plug in the ls series motors, so that is a possibility if your interested. The 411 will also run a 4l80e if you go that route. But by the time you aquire all the parts, put it all together, buy the tuning software, and pay somebody to tune it( if you cant so so yourself) it would be more cost efficient kn the long run to puchase the holley dominator set up.

I was going to say sounds like a science project more so than anything, not that science projects are bad I have done a bunch of them myself on these trucks.

Re: ECM options

I believe the practical solution in this case is to go with TurboTweak. My friend just wants to get his truck running and reliable.

Re: ECM options

Not sure what the instrumentation uses for inputs, but I'd try and see if you can go with the newest PCM for those. If at all, I'd see if you can switch to a newer 0411 PCM.

I just finished having a 0411 PCM swap for OBDII in my 94 S10. All the instrumentation works like factory, I've got it setup for MPFI with 80# high impedance injectors, and I have a lot more tuning options now than what OBDI had to offer. Changed it from a 1 Bar MAP to a 3 Bar MAP. Then you can choose between either EFI Live or HP Tuners Pro or something else for tuning, you can also do real time data log's if you'd like to learn to tune yourself.

As you can see, it would be quite an undertaking to perform a 411 swap on the syclone. I'm sure it offers more tuning options. My buddy just wants reliability and streetability.
