how are you going to "stake" that plug?
JB weld would keep it from backing out as well, eh?
Looks like a great idea to keep the exhaust gases out of the upper altogether.
I plan on doing this on my ported upper, just want to make sure I do it once and do it right.
The plug gets "staked" by tightening it just below flush. Then a 1/8th inch roll punch is used in conjunction with a hammer to deform the aluminum over the perimeter of the plug in two or three places keeping it in place. I haven't done it yet because I keep forgetting to grab my 1/8th inch roll pin punch from work  . Being that I have a "stealth" block off plate now, I can't run a gasket under the block off plate...
I wanted a solid mechanical method to keep the port sealed up. JB Weld or the like seemed like a bad idea since anything that could become brittle from the high heat would eventually find it's way into the motor... The same holds true for any threadlocker too, plug loosens up, backs out and finds it's way into the motor. I though about getting it welded shut but that would have warped the sealing surface. If I was to go that route, I wouldn't have any qualms about doing it to the lower intake since there is much more material there to dissipate the heat.
