front axles tight!!

question on the front axles, are they suppose to be tight, well i installed the drivers side one, and had trouble putting the spindle on the upper control arm was hard as heck, to put on, and when i put everything together, the wheel would not turn, i had it in neutral, and both wheels up in the air, well i drove it and it started making a cluncking noise, so went back to the shop, and installed the other driveshaft, and went on a little better, but again the wheel was hard to turn in neutral, but it did turn, so i drove it and slight cluncking, thats was'nt really noticeable, but thats when the whinning started, when i accelerate on the road it get pretty loud, but when i decelerate, it gets quit, sounds like a hub bearing, one question i got, are both front axle shafts the same size, got them from advance, if that helps. should i replace both front hub bearings.

Was it like that before you replaced the axles? What part of Texas you in, League City?

the front drive axles, when i installed them, they seem real tight, had hell trying to put back the spindle on, but once i put it back on its makeing a low cluncking noise, are both axles the same size, and did they make on for the driver side and one for the passenger,

Re: front axles tight!!

Ok, you are now officially killing me slowly.
I asked what was tight. Be way more specific then "them"
Are the front wheels hard to move?
Was the nut for the CV drive axle tight?
Was the CV axle too tight to go into the steering knuckle?
Do you realize the fwd vehicles don't have spindles?
Did you take the steering knuckle off?
Did you torque the axle nut to 200 Foot pounds?
Help me help you.
The proper CV axles are the same on both sides.

Re: front axles tight!!

CV axle is to tight to going into the steering knuckle. when installed, are the bolts suppose to be torqued, and is the axle nut, suppose to be torqued too. i ordered to more cv axles, do you think the axles are defective, and has anybody had any problems before, thanks.

Re: front axles tight!!

Why are you changing out the CV axles?
The CV axle is a close tolerance item. It should be able to be wiggled/pushed into the steering knuckle when aligned right. There is no room to make it an easy task.
The big axle nut is 200 FOOT pounds.
The other end is your standard tight.
If you drove with the axle nut loose it would have destroyed the bearing assembly.
Besides the boots and attaching hardware, does the axle removed look like the one installing?
