Front bumper cover

Has anyone been successful at getting their bumper cover back on without any gaps on the side? If so how did you do it?

I remember there being a topic about this a few years ago or so, don't think anything came of it except for some oh-so-close pics... could be wrong.

If you are talking about the gap between the bumper cover and the cladding it should be there. Seems like about a half inch or so is correct. You do not want it touching or it will chaff itself and the side cladding.

Closing the gap can be done but as was mentioned you dont want to close it up completely. The first ty picture looks correct to me but lots of sytys werent that close from the factory (including mine).

After much monkeying with my front bumper cover I ended up using a die grinder to deepen the slots in the two main supports that attach to the frame on the bumper cover support to allow it to fit closer to the fender cladding. The two outer supports I removed on my truck but you may find that the slots for the mounting bolts will need opening up on those also if you retain them. Starting with a straight bumper cover support helps tremendously in this process too. I prolly spend two hours to align the cover every time I take it off as thats how much of a PIA it is along with me being that anal about it.

myclone, did the bumper covers also have wire supports underneath (from the frame to the cover)? Before mine got hit I had two but after I had got it back from the shop they were gone.

No "wire supports" here. Just the two main bracket to frame mounts, secondary lower support to frame mounts, and finally the round "bar" supports that go from the outside of the frame to the ends of the support (these are right under the turn signal lamps on either side).

I'll have to go through my paper work, it happened back in 99 or 00, until then I'm gonna say new.

...............

myclone, sorry the word "supports" is wrong of me to say. I should have said "tention".

If the half's that were attached to the frame are still there I'll post pics, but I guess if they were factory you would have picked up on it already.

I'm going to try what you have done, I'm sick of looking at those gaps.
