Getting closer to buying a Sy*UPDATE 8/19*

I went to look at the Sy in my neighborhood last night. They came down in price a little. It's listed at $13,000 OBO now. Truck has 54,xxx on it now. Aside from the outside having it's share of dings and dents and needing a paintjob, the truck looked really good. Interior was perfect. They are getting a new headliner put in next week. The engine bay was immaculate. You could have eaten off the motor. The owner said he put new ball joints and tie rods in it two weeks prior. It has a lot of new parts. I'll need to get a list.

He started it for me and it sounded strong. They upgraded the exhaust to Flowmaster (for better or worse). Only thing is... it shook a bit when it was running. I'm not entirely familiar with the 4.3L motors. Do they run a little rough or was there something wrong with this? I'm guessing it was running on a cold start so it was on the factory presets. It was only on for maybe 3 minutes as it was sitting in the garage. I'm used to the 3.8L motors that run silky smooth. ;)

I'm going back to take it for a drive Saturday. Anything I should be looking for here? What is a fair price? I'm thinking if I can snag it for $10,000 or less, that would be great. Hoping to get the entire truck repainted and the dents taken out of the back bed (they used to haul trash to the transfer station in it so the bed is pretty dinged up).

Thanks in advance for your help. I really hope I can get this one.

$13k is a bit much for a truck that has dents and dings and needs paint

low miles but needs body work and paint.. $10k isn't bad.. but you'll spend a few grand painting it and in body work.

Thanks for the info guys. I can't stand Flowmaster exhaust on a boosted car myself but whatever. I'd upgrade that when I got the $$.

I'll throw the $10,000 figure at them and if they aren't thrilled about it, no biggie. It looks like there are a few for sale now on this board as well with comparable miles and in better condition. Weird how the market has pretty much gone dead for Syclones. They are way cooler than GNs IMO but just haven't really taken off yet.

They often run rough but it's usually something new cap, wires, and plugs helps with. (to start. (get datamaster scan if you can)

id investigate the rough running part my sy starts up pretty smooth but 10k is a pretty good offer i wouldn't go over that

Thats too much money. $10,000 would be the most I would pay. Runing rough when they are cold is what they do best.

These trucks run lean from the factory to help with emissions so a little rough is normal but the later factory chip that came on in the 93 ty's help a little with this.

I'd suggest a compression test.. if you can't do it setup a time/date at a shop that can do it and coordinate this with the seller that way you know it's not going to be a boat anchor two weeks after you fork over your hard earned dollars.. If the owners feels the trucks 10k plus worthy he shouldn't have a problem with working with you on the compression test.

Ask anyone who's seen it! BEEEutiful!!

PM me!!

PM sent.

I'm looking into financing for your Syclone. Looks really nice. I'd have to drive it back from PA to CT but I assume it would make it with no issues whatsoever. :) Shoot me a PM back if you have a chance. I'd love to give that truck a happy home here in CT and continue it's tradition of being on the forum.

Don't even joke around bringing that gorgeous truck to CT. That truck is one of my favorites. Good luck and I hope to see it.

If the truck is as good as Vince has been saying (and I believe him) and we can chat a little about pricing then this should work out. I'll keep you posted if I buy his.

Looks like it was won on ebay regardless so unless that buyer backs out I'm SOL. :(

i Gave 10k for my truck with 101 on the clock. All it needed was a new owner it's imaculate paint body etc. so i would not give anymore than 10k for a low mileage 30-40k miles that needs paint and body and a headliner. here is the link on my truck that i bought. http://www.syty.net/forums/showthread.php?t=50503

Something also to look at when you go drive it. The odometers on these truck a very prone to break so please verify that it's adding the miles to it.. The trip meter and the odometer works seprate from each other so look very good. Take a known route where you can check to see if it's actuall recording the same miles to a tenth or two.

That's a good piece of info there. I'll keep a weary eye on the cluster to make sure the odometer is working properly. The other thing I noticed when he started it was either it had almost no gas in it at all or the gas gauge wasn't working. I'll know more tonight when I look at it.

Re: Getting closer to buying a Sy*UPDATE 8/12*

Re: Getting closer to buying a Sy*UPDATE 8/12*

I finally test-drove the one by me tonight. Not the most stellar of vehicles but I've never driven one before so I'd figure on asking you guys your thoughts.

First, the steering was almost unresponsive it seemed. The guy blamed it on having not re-aligned the truck after doing the tie rods. WTF? I could turn the wheel quite a bit each way with not much of a response...

Second, the e-brake light stayed on after releasing the brake. Is this common? I'm guessing the cable might need adjusting.

Third, these guys didn't even put gas in it before allowing me to take it for a drive. While I'm on a straight-away, the guy tells me to get on it. I put the pedal to the floor and wait... a little bucking and nothing. The gas gauge is sitting on E and the truck is beginning to sputter. He said he'd get a tank of gas and let me take the truck out again. Again... WTF? On my car, it's really bad to run the tank down as it burns out the fuel pump. Is this the same on Syclones?

Fourth, the truck had occasional rattles coming from the back of the cabin but I'm guessing this isn't the worst thing in the world.

Overall, it was a pretty underwhelming experience. What do you guys think of price now? Maybe throw $6000 at this guy and see what he says?

I'm also thinking about bringing the truck down to a buddy of mine that has a shop so I can get it on the lift to check underneath.

At this point, I'm hoping that Vince's truck is still available because I don't want to have a nightmare on my hands.
