Getting ready for paint. Might De-Rack it

OK, so I am in the process of removing my cladding, and getting ready to start body work. Not to much, only one spot of surface rust near drivers rear window. Body is otherwise clean. I am in a delema over taking off the roof rack. I notice that it was a dealer installed Item, so taking it off wont hurt the value (I am looking FAR down the road when these things are worth something), but I am not sold on the look. I have only seen red/gray with racks. Any thoughts, or pics?
Thanks
Jeff

If you're looking to keep it as a low miles trailer queen garage kept truck to seell at barret jackson when you're 75 years old, keep the rack, if not, ditch it... they're ugly. The roof rack and cd player make the truck "fully loaded" so itl sell for more at one of those collector auctions a million years from now.

Since you're painting it, you're gunna need the correct looking graphics. Let me know what you need as I have been making quite a few sets lately.

i say ditch the rack,it will look much better, if your worried about hurting the value, keep the roof rack in storage, so if you decide to sell your truck, it can be put back on.

I will be removing my rack soon. Not just because it's ugly but, it loves to hold water when you wash the truck. Everything nice and dry then 5 minutes later water runs out and I gotta dry it again.

Racks are for Bravadas & Blazers...
X2. The Tys are a victim of roof racks from the dealer. Most of them have the racks, but I think it should be the other way around. Dealer installed racks shouldn't really make a sports vehicle fully loaded, they must of figured they would be used like everyday Jimmys only with alot of kick!

Would they put a roof rack on a Corvette? Hope not

You could order Luggage racks on Corvette's. They had them available as late as the C4 Convertibles (it's pretty rare option)

And a very lame one. I had one on mine. I shaved that thing. And destroyed it with a sledge and posted it on corvette forum. Them old guy purists were pissed, :rotf:

Yeah on a Vette what a pointless option! Racks stand out too much, and ruin the clean sporty look.

I like the racks, part of the Utility in SUV. Hopefully get one back on mine and actually use it too. I love driving this thing, I want to drive it everywhere. Looking forward to taking it out to CO for a snowboarding trip with some boards strapped to the rack:D

Yeah, but I don't use the truck for that stuff. I have my other truck for that. It can have some uses, such as:
*Hanging your:rainbow: flag on it
*Putting about 50 lbs of weight on it
*Having whatever tied to the rack, and the ropes/straps scratching a new paint job

I am sure the list will get longer, but I don't think it will be staying on, I have no flag to hang from it

roof racks on vettes actually served a function though. Its to hold the t-tops. Im not saying i like them, but they do have a purpose unlike a ty rack.

There will be alot of different opinions regarding the racks, but when it comes down to it there are only a hand full of people who like to have the roof rack, never for looks, but for use. Which is why the dealers put em on, figured the Tys where just a sportier then regualar Jimmy year round SUV to stack the miles onto, along with the luggage.
