Glowing exhaust manifolds

Had to do some transmission upgrades after 3rd kept going out. Truck was running fine before we built the tranny. Put it back in and now the truck won't build any rpm's and the exhaust manifolds glow red hot after running for just a short period of time. It starts and idles fine but if basically not drive able as is. There is no catalytic converter and we can't find any other type of exhaust restriction.
Any ideas?

Re: Glowing exhaust manifolds

After doing a little research that definitely looks like a possibility. Would it start and idle so well though?

Re: Glowing exhaust manifolds

Thanks guys. Gonna check the timing and wires this weekend. Hopefully we can get her back on the road.

Re: Glowing exhaust manifolds

like the rest timing or running LEAN on fuel will cherry up the manifolds too

check the knock senor I had the same thing happen to me. back of the engine just above transmission bolts is where it's located

how would the knock sensor make manifolds get hot? not saying no way just trying to learn.

Did you remove the distributor? If not, wires. Done it before. It will start and idle but get red hot and run like shit.

Re: Glowing exhaust manifolds

if knock senor detects detonation it will retard the ignition Blovett said it ran fine before a tranny swap I'm guessing they could of banged it with the tools trying to remove the upper tranny bolts not a sure fix just what happen to me few years back
