Folks this is a great day and I did know it was in the truck to get the first 8´
Guess I won the bet so... $5 to me from everyone that placed the bets on Hoovers or Hess.. just hand it over
Yes Robert had no time to finetune the Sy, we got 3 runs on friday did som fine 9,2x times found a item not worki´n fixed it saturday morning and run a 9.003..
have not the timeslips here at work for that run, but could tell by the spinning tires at launch (about 20-30 feet) the tracktion was bad.. then further down the strip I heard the engine got to the RPM-guard a good 50 feet before the 1/4 mile and stil got the 9.00 run, this ment, the 8 was just a run away
SOme minor adjustments on the laptop to get the RPM the whole 1/4 mile run and of to next and maybe the last run for the day (this is the situation in Sweden U hardy get more than 3-4 runs a day :C )
The 8 second run itself started as the run before spinning tires for a 20 feet killing the 60´down to a 1.431.
the shift points is a lithle close set so engine just hit the RPM-guard on bouth 1-2 and 2-3 shift (just a tadada) then the great feeling when the sign said 8.98@155 and the whole race (spectators, safety crue, track officials, all other teams) cheared the 8 for Robert..
After the 8 sec run we felt werry aroused and could´nt settle down so we whent up from pitlane to the trac and watched the jet dragster and som other races. then down packing down the party tent shifting the slicks in the rear to ET streets loading the stuff on the Sy and drive home (its a streetcar and is used on the streets)
As you can read from my story ..Yes its MORE to come in this Sy, a better track (Gardemoen or Mantorp) the times could been improved. but HOW much???
Now when the 8 is reatched (is ben a good hunt for it) we might get the time (after the nats) to hit MECCA race way down in Malmö for a day of fine tuning on a 1/8 trackwhere we get more than 3 runs a day and can realy do some tuning..
The Goal was reatched, engine is in one peace, now Robert is going to do a 8 sec service, change oil, filters and bla bla
Then on the -06-07-26 its shipping time yahooo or yihaaa where on our way to the nats.

The "worst" part is, theres no dramatic around the runs.. yes a couple of feet tire spinns but then... It just sits down and disapears not yerkin around or smokin tires or other disbehaves. just sits down and flyes like an arrow..
You just dont realise its that fast...

I feel the same way but THANK GOD IT WASN'T ED! We would have never heard the end of that.

If the track at the Nat´s are as good as/or better than Mantorp and Gardemoen and not so slippery and jumpy as Säve is theres a huge possibility that Roberts runs in the 8 at the nats
I would sertanly kill the bs about the status on the tracks "here and there"

hej man, be nice to Ed he has worked har to reatch the 8 himself to, as Hoover´s and Robert..
Think of all the money invested and be "beaten" when your so close as Matt has been, and Ed was ready to change the turbos to realy run "the beast".. how about the goal they tryed to reach?? gone with the wind..
I remember how Robert felt when Hoover run the 9.03 slips and even the 9.004 His mood was´nt ´high those days. and still we felt sad about the loss of Hoovers engine, yes that gave us the "play off seat" and we scored, but It could as easily happend to us..
Its a fine line betwine succses and disaster.

I have respect for those like you and the hoovers who do their own work and make things happen. I have none for those that open up their checkbook and buy it. trust me I know what it's like to spend the $ to make it go fast and lose motors along the way. I can't even begin to imagine how much I've spent and to build something like roberts truck and the hoovers dwarf mine. respect is to be earned not given.

so you're saying that if someone pays people to build their vehicle, and that vehicle sets a new record, it isn't to be respected? So all those NHRA vehicles are equally not to be respected because the drivers didn't do everything? He has sponsors and a crew and an engineerign team behind him. It doesn't make his 320+MPH passes less respectful. Ed has spent a lot of money to get his vehicle to the point it is at, and I for one can totally respect both him and the truck.
I dont mean to hijack this thread.... just need to vent a little....
Congrats to you on the superb pass! I hope that it runs real strong (like this) when you get here...that is if Jeff doesn't just 'disappear' with it!

I can relate to your way of thinkin, yes I realy do. but when your in this game, theres allways things you dont be able to fix your self, and not all thats a gearheads have it in his hands..
theres 2-3 ways of doing things..
# 1.Do it mostly by your self. you will probably read alot and start to copy allready funktional cars then develop a skill and plan by yourself, ceeping cost as low as possibly and do 90% of all work and develop yourself..
# 2. Your intresded know what you wants (you allso have read all about it ) and you develop a plan, but your skill in craftsmanship maybee is in stockbroker not auto mecanics you earn lots of $ and pay a craftman to do 90 % of your plans for High costs..
# 3. You got som $ realy dont know what you wants or what you like, so you buy the first fast and fansy car you see and try from there..
The # 3 guy can develop to either a # 1 or a # 2 or totaly blow it and start a hoggfarm ;D
# 1 or # 2 is bouth responsible for develop a fast car, have a plan but does it i 2 different ways.. as I see it bouth diservs respect for their efforts..
Then again its in human nature to not be able to love every one.

Ben around for a while, you learn as you get older..
I´ll be 50 next year and I still play sports with my coleges and friends (mostly in midd 30) dates "young" girls in the late 30 early 40 , drives like a young car theif, still thinks Im only 35, my friends age is running from 25-70 still consults my 80 year old father in difficult matters when in need of a second opinion (still crystal clear in his mind) and the fountain of youth..
my 10 year old son
