Heads up TY vs. TBSS

Pros and cons. I hear you can make the TBSS pretty fast with not too much money/mods. Raced a white one from a 20mph roll the other day and he seemed to keep up with me pretty well. Not sure what he had done to it though. Hopefully this will go more in depth than THIS post. I hear they are also discontinuing the TBSS in '09...

i think the trailblazers are kinda plain and ugly i mean i guess they go ok,but they are still a ugly trailblazer, just buy a c5 or trans am etc, even know they are awd,ty is different ,but nothing is as nice as new,i myself would rather have a real clean low mileage ty.

I think they are discontinuing all Trailblazers, Envoy, etc. in '09. Really though, other than minor updates to the grille, bumpers, wheels, and body side moldings, they are pretty much unchanged since they came out in '02. Too bad though. I like my Envoy, but am considering trading it in on a TBSS right now with the 0% for 60. Doing 0% for 72 on the Envoy, so payments would go up some, but might be worth it.

It doesn't take much to get one in the 12's with simple bolt-ons.Not bad for a 5000 pound suv with driver. The fastest I've heard of so far is running 10.20's.Go to www.trailblazerss.com for lots of great info.

Yes but it depends on your situation and if you have a family. I was going to buy a ty a year ago but with all the daily drivablity problems and rust I went out and purchased the SS. I think it was a good move for me because it's just as fast but NEW with more room for the family and I can tow 7k with it. I love the sy and ty's but for everyday use they don't make sense for most. I am still looking for a ty but for fun not daily use. I would think most people use them that way.My 2cents

I bet the TBSS gets worse gas mileage. Do you plan on towing anything? Do you want something that's rare or not? In the new "Truckin", they have 520 hp TBSS. What do you plan on doing with it?

I raced a few TBSS and I've won all of the times. It's a little harder with a rolling start. The TBSS is a good looking truckbut it needs to be a little lower to get that aggressive look. I drive my TY daily pound on it daily. Pretty reliable, but I do all the wrenching.

I get 15mpg in my SS and 13mpg towing a car on the trailer. Its a great all around truck with room for the wife and kids :)
yes they need to be lower and turbo charged

Depending on my "foot factor" I get anywhere from 14 to 17 mpg. I have gotten 21 mpg one day in town, according to the computer. With a simple tune, intake and exhuast you can get a noticable increase. I've talked to other owners who claim almost 1 sec drops at the track with a few mods. And supercharging? look up youtube videos! I love my truck, but not as much as my Ty's. I can say the SS is fast and fun, but far more "practical" in daily driving. Oh yeah, and the Ty's do smoke them at the stoplights! :2cents:

the guy who tunes my truck has an awd TBSS. he's running ~12.1 in the 1/4 with a 150 shot and few other small mods like intake/cat back. I'm not sure what the mph was on that run but he felt it had a bit more in it.

Re: Heads up TY vs. TBSS

I have them both. 2006 TBSS and '92 Ty. From a dig, no brainer=Ty. Up to about 100mph. Then it is the TBSS from there on. My Ty is fairly stock. The TBSS has a Magnaflow cat-back, cold air intake, and HSRK kit. I have yet to tune it. With a tune it would be close, even though mine is 2wd (weight). But the LS2 in the TBSS is a damn monster. The instant power anywhere all the time is addictive. Someone local supposedly has one with an STS turbo kit and a stall and is running mid 7's in the 1/8th. For family use get the TBSS; the creature comfort is far superior, radio and heat/ a/c controls on the back of the console, available DVD overhead, etc. But which one would I buy? The Typhoon. I wanted one when I was in high school and promised myself I would get one when I could. So maybe some sentimental value for me. And hey, for these trucks to be this old and STILL run with most performance vehicles produced today is phenomenal!! Good luck with your choice!

Re: Heads up TY vs. TBSS

In my opinion they shouldn't be really compared to each other. The only thing they really have in common is that they are both GM,and an SUV,and AWD(if you have the AWD TB SS).Other than that, they are both totally different vehicles
