Oh yeah wrapping the dp helps. You can somewhat grab it after you've been out driving around and goofing off a bit with it wrapped.
I wouldnt recomend wrapping the exhaust manifolds. Nore the x-over. It'll be a waste. Just have them coated if your worried about the heat.

Are you running the stock heat shields? What about wire ties, or looms to keep them together and out of the way? I would just buy the plug boots and slip them over the wires/plug boot. It'll be easier on you in the long run. If your burning through the wires then they arnt tied up correct. And if they are, you have some major heat issues and should look into why your getting that hot rather then a quick fix.
Don't use tape. It may be able to hold the temp's just as well. But it will catch on fire easy if it gets to hot. I've seen it happen in a buddies old GN he had.

I have the 6" taylor wire boot covers over my wires and have had no problem thus far.

I wrapped my headers partly.... the driver's header plus the crossover used 50' of 1" tape. So, I'd say around 120 - 130 if you were doing it all.
I had problems with superheating the brake / powersteering lines. Going to get them coated eventually

I used the wrap on my small block S-10 headers back in the day and it ended up cooking the metal and it cracked all the time after that. It's great at holding in heat but will kill mild steel headers.
Not sure what it's effect on Cast Iron would be? Cast Iron is fairly stable at high temps.. It could would out great for under hood temps.
I wraped my stock down pipe with good results but won't do that with the one I'm going to fabricate out of mild steel... It'll cook it!
